Nice that we have our own Side Lot here on Stovebolt. Even though we have a big state, I look forward to having more contact with Bolters nearby on wherever I happen to be traveling.

Hi Bill

Sounds good to me too. After four years of minimal progress I am finally working on my truck again. I hope to get the cab painted before New Year's so I can get it on the frame. That way I can work over the winter (wiring harness, glass, interior).

How is work on your side of the Metroplex. We are super busy at our place.

Alright. We have our own little corner. I won't be sending out those annoying emails anymore. I'll post stuff here. Roy, looking forward to you getting together with us. D!ck, good to see you are working on the truck.
Been working on mine latley when i have spare time. Hope to have it on the road soon.
Where are you located?

Howdy! I live on the border of the Bastrop area fire. My largest concern, even more than our home, was the thought of losing the '54. Luckily the 34,000 acre fire only came within a couple hundred yards of our property. A few weeks after the fire, we had another Red Flag Warning day. This time, a 60+ foot dead tree fell within 10 feet of the tow truck.
Here's a pic of the tree that fell.
A closer view of the tree.

The two things I have learned:

1) God must love my old Chevy truck.
B) I really need to get it road worthy.

Glad your family, truck, and home made it through that ordeal safely!

I look forward to the day when my truck is completed that I can participate in some local events.
The 1,000 mile 4 day Texas loop really looked like a lot of fun.

Is the salvage yard in Midlothian still open? I think it is on 287.

We have a big group in Texas

It is funny that there is no edit button.

Howdy Texans, Will you be my neighbor?

I guess you will now have to think before you post and be careful what you say.

I got an edit button for my post. But there seems to be a problem with the 'quote' function.

Howdy fellow Texans! We should figure out a time and place to meet up some time and talk trucks. Unfortunately none of my Chevys are street legal now except for the "new" ones (04 half ton and 05 3/4 4x4) Still I would love to get together to chat. I can a least come armed with photos.

The Midlothian salvage yard still there? yes and no.

I was in there about two months ago and when I got on the hill and looked down on the old stuff I was in shock. They crushed about 50% to 75% of it. Everything that is 70's and older is fenced off and out of bounds on the west side of the yard. They even added video cameras to watch people in there.

I was so depressed. Still am.

One more "Howdy"...this one from Houston. Working whenever I can on the '46 school bus. Still a long way to go so connecting and trading resources with any other Texas builders would be great.

Hey Tango,
Where are you located? Lots of guys up north near Dallas. Some south of Houston. I'm on the north side of Houston in Spring. Mine is a 51 half ton. There are a few bolters around here.

I'm in Fredericksburg. There are a couple of old Chevy and GMC guys around here, but I don't notice them on this site. Maybe their screen name disguises them to where I don't know them. I have lots of people stop at my house because they see all my junk, but I can't remember names.

51bolt --- So far the bus has been gutted on the interior, wheel wells pulled, rub rails pulled (and ready for blasting), new galvanized body spacers fabbed, new sheet metal being fabbed to replace what I've cut away on both sides and a 4BTAA Cummins is being rebuilt at Diesel Specialists. I have a new 44 gal. aluminum fuel tank and a 44 gal. blackwater tank along with various small items like vintage turn signals and some chrome. Biggest issues to come are finding the right tranny and rear end (a really big issue...otherwise, top speed will be about 45!).

How'za bout your rig?

PS...I just updated the link below to go to a Flickr Album showing some progress.

Tango,
My 51 has been finished for almost 2 years. If you would like to see it go to painthousetx.com and click on Out the Door. My truck is called Ol Joe and has won a few awards. Painthouse did the tin work and paint but the rest I did. Took about 6 years from powder coated frame on up. It's a great driver.
Enjoy.

Hey Mark --- Drop dead gorgeous 3-window! I can see why it's an award winner and love those fat whitewalls. Also glad to hear it's a "driver" and not a museum piece. Old trucks were meant to be driven! Thanks for the link. And, where did you get your chrome work done? (I know there is a thread open on this but didn't check to see if you had posted there)
