Just received parts for the door rollup window including new rollup window glass. What is the best way for installing the fuzzies? I received fuzzies for the rollup window that attach to the door, fuzzies for the window garnish trim, fuzzies for the vent window channel, wipes for rollup window that attaches to the door and some clips. Do not know where the clips install?


Here is a picture of one the clips. There are 10 clips, 5 for each door. The clips are 1/2" wide x 1 1/2" long. These type of clips are not on the old door stuff.

Those clips "might" be after-thoughts to fasten the window runner felt to the door. I've read that some guys put a couple screws through that channel felt to keep it in place.....but mine stayed fine. I just did this entire operation today and after 10 hours on the one door, the second took 2 hours. I can help you get it done in 2 hours too!

The clips are a poor imitation of the original factory ones. Around the glass they locate around the window above the interior/exterior trim level. The original channels do have a similar metal strip spacer for alignment purposes. They are not necessary for the replacement and I discarded mine since they kept coming off. If you have access to a Master Parts Book they are section 16.200 they are called retainers and are mentioned for the 51-53 (my book only goes to 53) but not for the early years. Part numbers are #3699865 and #3699866 (page 712) of the 1929-1953 Master Parts Catalog.

Interesting on the clips Brad. The ones I see on my metal trim pieces look nothing like that, they are "W" shaped. Not sure what model OP has though.

I am trying to put the door window parts back together correct. When I removed the old parts, there were not any clips attaching the felt to the door. I'm sure adhesives are inproved during the last 50 or 60 years. If I use only adhesive, what would be recommended?

Will you please post an update when you install your "fuzzies" and use/don't use the clips? I will be installing mine next week. The same clips came with my "fuzzies" from The Truck Shop.

Have you installed the fuzzy window wipes on the interior garnish yet? Denny Graham posted a pic of a good way to mark the holes for the staples. Use a right angle pick, kinda like a dental pick, through the holes on the garnish to mark the location onto rubber on the wipes. I used a spring punch to dimple the metal on the wipes, then drilled with a 1/16" bit. Some of the holes go between the gaps in the metal and don't need drilling. Drill the holes in the garnish with the 1/16" bit also to fit the diam of the staples. I bent the staples over with 4" Task Force mini vice grips - $2 - from Lowe's. The inside of the jaws are curved enough to clear the edge of the garnish when crimping. Start the staple bending in the right direction with needle nose pliers, then use the vice grips. Worked great and was fairly fast. Protect the edge of your garnish with tape while your work. (Don't ask me how I know that.)

This will not work on garnish without vent windows. They are narrower than garnish for vent windows.

The window installation is on hold. I am planning to order new vent window parts. The information posted is going to be a lot of help. Decided to to the job right the first time, thus the order for the vent window parts. Winter is coming and I need to get the windows installed.

Did you guys use any adhesive?

Making progress. Last night I installed the horizontal wiper pieces that attach to the door just below the window opening. Screw driver seemed to work the best for pushing the seal into the channel. Hardest part was removing the old part. The old pieces were very brittle. Also prefitting the fuzzies that attach to the door and the fuzzies that attach to the garnish. Like most things, this job will take awhile. I do like the challenge of doing something new to me. I appreciate the advise provided on this forum.

Still waiting for vent window parts. Two steps ahead and one back or is it one step ahead and two back.

Sounds like we are progressing on our '54 windows at about the same pace.

Other guys can give more experienced answers that I can, but I'm kinda following the adhesive / sealant info in the Shop Manual and the Assembly Manual. Using the minimum amount to ease disassembly during the next tear down.

I used a few streaks of RTV gasket goo behind the fuzzies on the inner door garnish to replace the rubber that my drill bit grabbed and pulled off when I drilled the holes for the staples.

Used 3-M Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive between the rain deflector and the outer door garnish as instructed in the Assembly Manual.

Didn't use adhesive behind the rubber wipes in the door.

Installed the vent rubber in the frame today and will set the pivot rivets tonight. Hope to attach the rest of the weather stripping and finish installing my windows and vent assemblies this week. I'll make the final decision about adhesive as I go.

I'm back and working on the door window installation. The web links above have been a great help. Making good progress. I removed the window rollup regulator. The channel on the bottom of the window supposed to fit into the window regulator roller. It seems to bind on the rubber washer. I need to remove and replace the washer or just leave it off. I have checked the various truck supply vendors. I found new regulators but not the rubber washer. Regulator seems to work fine. Just need the washer.

.... I may be wrong but the washers on what I think were original doors, at least on my 52, appear to have leather washers and not rubber....which would "sort of" make sense as the wing vent used leather washers on its assembly.
....then again a 54 may be entirely different???

If it is Leather a shoe shop can cut you a couple..or get some hole punches and make your own.

Looking at the after market window rollup window regulator from various vendors. The picture does not show the washer. Maybe I can just remove the washer and install the regulator without the washer.

The clips came with the window felt and glass run kit from the Truck Shop. I started using the kit to install my windows. I am not planning to use the clips. I am using #4 screws instead of the clips. So far so good. Started the job then decided to have some work done on the doors before I installed the windows. Job going slow but need the windows installed so I can enjoy winter driving. I've decided to remove the washer on the window regulator and install the windows. The other window regulator on the passenger side does not have the washers and that window worked fine.

I assume you got them from the Truck Shop in Orange, CA?

Just finished installation of the vent window and rollup window in the drivers door. Works fine and looks great. I now know the sequence. The passenger door is next. Tomorrow is another day.

I did not use the clips mentioned earlier. I used #4 x 3/8 screws to hold the felt (fuzzies) in place. Seemed to work great.

Both doors now have vent windows and rollup windows. Both work fine and look great. Just in time for winter.
