I have a 350 that is hard to start when hot. I tried adjusting timing to no avail, new rebuilt starter. Can anyone help? Thanks...Virg

HMMM usually a hard start when hot is Timin , could your starter be gettin too much exhaust heat ?..maybe a sheild or wrap is in order ...just throwin things out at ya

Virg, I had the same problem. trie everything, new starters,new battery, new ign.switch.new cables. till some one here at the bolt put me on to a heavy duty starter. Mine said he was for a 1975 chev G 30 van v8/350 Bought it at murrays for $52. returned the old one that I bought from them for 36. their bosch # 25374. murray # 1047204 It spins it so fast I am astounded. Trust me this is the answer.

i used to have the same problem it was my exhaust makeing it too hot.

You could have a couple of different problems. Does it turn over and not start or does it not turn over when it is hot? I agree with the above about the starter but if it turns over fine but fails to start you may have a fuel problem. Some carburetors like Edelbrock tend to flood over when hot. When it finally starts does it run OK or does it run rough for a few seconds? If it runs rough it is an indication of flooding.

Heavy Duty Starter.

Though, a heat shield won't hurt anything (starter-wise).

Virg, I tried the heat shield among others, didn't help, I did re install it with the new heavy duty starter tho,

Heat shield and heavy duty starter have worked well for me on a 400 small block with 10 1/2 to 1 compression ratio. It cranks over good and fires right up.

Going to try a hi tourqe starter , hope it works. One guy told me it was his flywheel...?? Thanks for the replys will post results...Virg

Is your engine cranking too long before firing, or cranking too slowly to fire? These would be two seperate issues. one starter,battery or ground related and the other not.
A little more info on the "hard start" would definately help resolve your issue

When it gets to operating temp. it just barely turns over. It has to cool down before it will start agin. I have tried jumping it but still wont start. I think I have taken care of the ground. I might install the new starter tomorrow. Thanks Virg

Sonds like the a new starter might do the job. If not then you will have to look at getting a heat shield of some kind. If you still have problems I would be looking at your cables and connections.

Along with the heat shield and HD starter which is a must, I would also install the heaviest battery and ground cables I could find. They will carry the amperage MUCH better yahn stock cables. Been there, done that. It works for me. That should solve your problems. I wish you well. Henry
