Robert, I thought you put the carb back on. Came across a sweet deal on a polished tpi setup that I couldn't refuse!

I got my truck back from the body shop on the 18th and spent the 19th, 20th and 21st putting it back together. We were able to make it to the Frog follies in Evansville, IN this past weekend. I had it weighed (3200 lbs) and passed the safety inspection. It was such a joy to drive and with a few tweaks here and there we plan on going to Shades of the Past in Pigeon Forge, TN on Sept. 9th. I know it's just in primer but I plan on tearing it down this fall/winter for final paint. Check out the build link for new pics. | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 | That's looking real sharp Gman! 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr. Went to a friends place a few miles away, he wasn't home , so while I waited for him to get home, I gave the truck a birthday and adjusted the valves, a job I've not done for a few years. Truck is noticeably quieter now I'm really pleased I thought to do that job. | | | | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 15 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 15 | Got the cab and everything stripped off the frame for cutting. I am just wondering how the prices compare as I have not seen a business like that in my area. Looks great though! Yes, I had all the equipment reserved and two days before I decided to go pro. I really wanted to do it myself as well. You need a diesel generator to supply the air. That was $80 per day, then a 100lbs pot was $80. So taxes, you're at $200 in rental equipment. The sandblaster you rent is nowhere NEAR as powerful as the one they use. So double the time they took, if not tripple. I think I threw the towel in on doing it myself when the air compressor I was renting needed a clevis hitch to tow it back to my place. Based on what I've read on this site, and the mess I've experienced doing small sandblasting, I decided to get a pro to do it. It was messy, and they had the setup to get it done fast. So I add my name to the list of guys who say let the pros do it. As for the portability of the guys, look under professional washers. Lots of companies have their buildings cleaned with sandblasting, graffiti removed etc. The whole setup is in the back of a 25' truck. | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 695 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 695 | WOW! It was a full day of applying epoxy primer to the cab, doors, fenders, bed parts and everything else. Got it all done, but not without first blowing the start capacitor on my compressor because I had the generator setup wrong, then forgetting the dam paint at home after getting all set up. But it's all shot now and protected from rust. https://picasaweb.google.com/113636046886857960240/Cab#5647198343668027858 More photos there - just scroll... | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 Extreme Gabster | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 60 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 60 | Last year back home in Greece I was given an estimate of 700 Euro plus 21% tax( about 980 Dollars + tax)for frame and cub and I even had to bring it to them...

It was a very good day!
Wish I could say it fired right up. First I cranked and cranked and nothing. Then decided it wasn't getting gas from the new tank, lines and pump - but when I removed the line at the carb (also new) there was plenty of gas. Next checked for voltage at the distributor and had it there. Took apart the new 15 year old distributor thinking maybe it was corroded after all these years and it looked brand new. Then it hit me to check for voltage at the distributor while cranking and sure enough as soon as it started to crank - no voltage. The ignition switch was wired wrong. Fixed that and bingo fired right up!

Cut out the old carpet, removed the incorrect seat, removed the gas tank and vacuumed the floor. Found a few goodies and a buck or so in change... nothing old though... bummer. When I got it I made some research as they are very expensive here in the Netherlands and I remember it was mentioned that if it gets totally discharged the only way to bring it back to life is charging it with high Amperage (about 100A) for 20 minutes

When we tried to start it the thing was dead. I took it back to Interstate where I bought it and because it was over 30 months old and was an Optima I got no replacement. Leaving it sit for too long must be hard on them.
