Robert, I thought you put the carb back on.

Came across a sweet deal on a polished tpi setup that I couldn't refuse!

Troubleshot a wiring problem(self inflicted) got my brake lights working.
Adjusted the parking brake function on my rear calipers too.

Well once again I'm a few days late with this. I got my truck back from the body shop on the 18th and spent the 19th, 20th and 21st putting it back together. We were able to make it to the Frog follies in Evansville, IN this past weekend. I had it weighed (3200 lbs) and passed the safety inspection. It was such a joy to drive and with a few tweaks here and there we plan on going to Shades of the Past in Pigeon Forge, TN on Sept. 9th. I know it's just in primer but I plan on tearing it down this fall/winter for final paint. Check out the build link for new pics.

Today, the Farmer next door lit a huge fire , smoked half the district out .

So I went out. Went to a friends place a few miles away, he wasn't home , so while I waited for him to get home, I gave the truck a birthday and adjusted the valves, a job I've not done for a few years.

Truck is noticeably quieter now smile I'm really pleased I thought to do that job.

E-brake is now working. It took a set of custom ordered cables from Lokar to get it right, but now works like a champ.

Yesterday got EVERYTHING but the hood sandblasted. The guys had a mobile setup and did a great job at a great price. Took them 3.5 hrs, they used about 35-40 bags of sand but charged me for only 15.

All said and done, $450 + taxes. (CDN)

Have some a ton of pics (of course) and some video taken as well.

The sandblasting shots start here:

(you can click the big right arrow or use the right arrow key on the keyboard to navigate)

Some video of the cab getting blasted here:

Bigtonka, did you ever look into renting a sandblaster and doing it yourself? I am just wondering how the prices compare as I have not seen a business like that in my area. Looks great though!

Yes, I had all the equipment reserved and two days before I decided to go pro. I really wanted to do it myself as well.

You need a diesel generator to supply the air. That was $80 per day, then a 100lbs pot was $80. So taxes, you're at $200 in rental equipment. The sandblaster you rent is nowhere NEAR as powerful as the one they use. So double the time they took, if not tripple.

I think I threw the towel in on doing it myself when the air compressor I was renting needed a clevis hitch to tow it back to my place.

Based on what I've read on this site, and the mess I've experienced doing small sandblasting, I decided to get a pro to do it.

It was messy, and they had the setup to get it done fast. So I add my name to the list of guys who say let the pros do it.

As for the portability of the guys, look under professional washers. Lots of companies have their buildings cleaned with sandblasting, graffiti removed etc. The whole setup is in the back of a 25' truck.

Thanks Jerry, I guess I was under the impression that this is available everywhere. Maybe you can be the first in Texas!

They have a giant hopper in the truck with a HUGE diesel engine in the front half. A pallet of sand that one guy keeps feeding into the hopper and adjusting the pressure as the guy blasting gives hand signals.

Today was rough - felt like I've hit the "truck restoration wall"...

It was a full day of applying epoxy primer to the cab, doors, fenders, bed parts and everything else.

Got it all done, but not without first blowing the start capacitor on my compressor because I had the generator setup wrong, then forgetting the dam paint at home after getting all set up.

But it's all shot now and protected from rust. smile

Last night, after almost 15 years of sitting, I started the engine in my '53!

It was a very good day!

Wish I could say it fired right up. First I cranked and cranked and nothing. Then decided it wasn't getting gas from the new tank, lines and pump - but when I removed the line at the carb (also new) there was plenty of gas. Next checked for voltage at the distributor and had it there. Took apart the new 15 year old distributor thinking maybe it was corroded after all these years and it looked brand new. Then it hit me to check for voltage at the distributor while cranking and sure enough as soon as it started to crank - no voltage. The ignition switch was wired wrong. Fixed that and bingo fired right up!

Hopefully I can fix the taillights. Recently rewired them but not lighting up. ohwell

After that it's off to the body shop to replace those rotted floors and then the DMV for plates!

Had to take out the steering column to get the steering box looked at. Had to loosen the inner fender, take out the fender to cowl brace and the driver's seat. The rest was easy. (easier than I had envisioned)

Wheel Studs exchanged for bigger and better, no thanks to FLAPS.
I am so tired of dealing with part store “professionals” who cannot find a pine scented air freshener without first knowing what size motor the vehicle has that it is going in and weather it has power steering and air conditioning.

Left the headlights on and somehow managed to fry my 5 year old Optima battery due to total deep discharge. So I ran around and purchased and put in a new battery today. grrr. 6V batteries are gettin' hard to find around here.

I took advantage of some 90 degree temps and hit a good lick on the cab today.
Cut out the old carpet, removed the incorrect seat, removed the gas tank and vacuumed the floor. Found a few goodies and a buck or so in change... nothing old though... bummer.
All this revealed good, solid floor metal... no rust throughs anywhere YAY!

I also use an Optima. When I got it I made some research as they are very expensive here in the Netherlands and I remember it was mentioned that if it gets totally discharged the only way to bring it back to life is charging it with high Amperage (about 100A) for 20 minutes

I put an Optima in but didn't really need it for 2 years. When we tried to start it the thing was dead. I took it back to Interstate where I bought it and because it was over 30 months old and was an Optima I got no replacement. Leaving it sit for too long must be hard on them.
