I would like to switch to the Carter W1 carb I have but the flange on the W1 is narrower. Is there a carter carb available that will fit the rochester flange

I thought (maybe incorrectly) Chevy used Carter W1, Rochester and Carter YF carbs, depending on model, year, etc. But, maybe the intakes are different?? Somebody will let us know, I'm sure!

The engine might not be original. It is definatly splash oil, but it could be a 216 or a 235. Did they have different intake manifolds between the two engines.

The short answer is: YES The long answer: The size 2 (2 11/16 c-c mounting) was used on the 216, and early 235's. The size 3 (2 15/16 c-c mounting) was used on 235's, 250's, 261's, and 292's. Just because a carburetor will bolt up does not mean it will work. The internal venturi size will vary, based on the displacement. Very first thing to do is determine EXACT engine size and year. Then you can look for a carburetor that will function well with the engine. Jon.

That's possible with a set of stepped-down alignment rings in the intake ports. You'll probably need to find a 216 intake, and then get the correct-size carb for a 216 engine. Even if you find a carb that fits the manifold, it's not likely to be calibrated to work with a 216.

| | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 | Don't jump on me for this, but 19ci between a 216 and 235 isn't that big of a difference and any of the 235 era carbs should work reasonably well. I prefer the Carter YF over the Rochestor B. It's a great carb and easy to work with, but there were many variations of that same carb over a span of years.
