I have a 38 GMC(same as a Chevy)I adapted some original brake and clutch petals to the frame put power disc brakes on my truck. here is my question, how close can my power booster/master cylinder be to the exhaust with out it causing some kind of a heat problem with my master cylinder. ya I know it is a design flaw on my part and I am going to fix it I just need to know how far the minimum distance is so I can fix it right the first time. Also would a heat shield of some kind help me any

I had three areas that concerned me. Master cylinder, the rubber brake hose at my third member, and both pipes are very close to my gas tank. I solved my heat problems by purchasing several different lengths and sizes of fiberglass with a silicon coating sleeving. It's used to protect hydraulic lines on welding robots to keep the sparks from burning through the lines. I split it, wrapped the offending areas of exhaust pipe and clamped it with sst wire ties. Smaller size got used on the rubber brake line.

I have the exhaust from a midly hopped up 350 going just under it. I've had no problems in the past 10years. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 159 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 159 | That works for me Achipmunk, I just know I noticed how close it is and wondered if I was going to have a problem

However, you can take a look in my photobucket below and see how the 52panel is set up. While not "exactly" the same they are basically. If you want, I can slide under the 37 and take a few pics but it is not "store bought" but fabricated by a friend. Back then I did what I had to do but if I would have had the money back then I would have bought the kit. I purchased the brackets, pedal,booster,M/C (the entire deal) for my panel this past year from Piratejack.net for $207. I do believe they carry a set up for yours but not sure.
Let me know about the pics. I can get some tomorrow or tomorrow night. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 | I'm experiencing similar problems with my '50. A V8's a tight fit in an AD,never mind a '38! I've just ordered a pair of these for the M/C and the area near the starter.

Been that way for 20+ years with no problems. Good suggestions from the other guys about using a "heat wrap material" on the exhaust. Good for piece of mind. | | |
