Then when i close it, it slowly moves the arm all the way back the other way. if i keep opening and closing it, this will continue. Could this be dry? I remember siphoning 3 and 1 oil into the motor to make it work. That was 40 years ago. You manually manipulate the motor going back and forth. I think I used a rubber hose and sucked up the oil into the diaphragm. It did exactly what you describe so I finally gave up and bought the electric motor. Last month I also dismantled cleaned and lubricated the vacuum motor.With reinstalling it it behaved the same as yours.
After closer examination I found out that one of the rubber hoses was too old so it should not sit properly resulting in a vacuum leak.I relapsed all hoses with new ones and now it works perfect.

Tried 3 that claimed to be functional on 6v. Sent 'em all back. Some wouldn't even fit!
