I searched and couldn't find any info on this. Did Chevy make a factory AD rear passenger side fender with the indent for side mounted spare tire?

I found a fender with the indent and it looks factory. I can't find any indication of modifications, welds, etc. and it matches dimensions with my driver side fender.

No, the GM A-D bed-side spare tire holder (RPO 341/342) was on the driver's side only and was first available in 1953.

Thanks Tim. Somebody did a heck of a job on converting this fender...I'll post a picture tomorrow.

Allan,

Thanks for offering to post a picture. A while back, someone posted a photo of a pickup with spare tire carriers on both sides of the bed. It looked real nice (for those of us who like symmetry).

My 1952 truck has the spare tire on passenger side. The fender looks factory perfect (well maybe) yet the tire carrier looks home made.

That is not a factory set-up.

I suspect that someone cut the "dimple" out of a driver side and put it in the passenger? Maybe look on the back side of the fender and tell how they did it. I have a driver side fender and can see how they could do that.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

Sorry for the delay on the photos. Alvin, if they did cut it out and reverse it like the tech tip they did a heck of a job...I really can't tell.

As posted above, I have one of the "homemade" passenger side spare tire carriers and dimpled rear fenders that looks like the photo1 above. Now, I need to figure out the best method of returning the fender to normal/stock. I have a feeling by the time I am done, the fender is going to quite a bit of stretched metal and plastic filler...ugh.

Finally, i will have to fabricate my own under bead carrier. Fortunately, with the illustrations in the factory assembly manual, it shold not to diffilcult

David, maybe you could reverse the process given in the tech tip.
