I was told that the AD truck & suburban frames are the same. with the exception of a few more body mounts on the suburabn, panel frame? Is that the short bed frame? thanks in advance.

That is generally true. For detailed info you can find some at the GM Heritage center Lots of good basic info on all GM trucks there.

There were only 1/2 ton suburbans during A-D Advance-Design years (47-55). All A-D 1/2 ton trucks came in one wheel-base (116").

As you stated, there are different body mounts on the 1/2 ton panel-body frames (plus a few extra reinforcement "gussets").

Also, the 1/2 ton frames were different in different years. 1954/55 frames were different from earlier years but the differences might not be important, except for the lack of brackets for panel-body mounting blocks. Also, 1953 and earlier 1/2 ton frames had an extra frame cross-member for the mount at the rear of the transmission.

What year frame and/or body are you looking to put together?

Yes, there were 1-ton Panel and Canopy Express trucks/frames from 1947-1955.

I thought the question was directed to a Suburban, which only came as a 1/2 ton.

I probably should have also posted that there was no "short bed" vs "long bed" 1/2 ton Chevrolet Advance-Design trucks (47-55); however, there were short-bed and long-bed New Design GMC pickups in those same years.

So a 1949 ad SHORT bed frame will fit under my 1949 suburban and are these mentioned body mounts something that needs to be welded on or drill hole and bolt thru the frame?

They are just bolt on stuff correct? i have the part to swap from knee action to tube shocks already so im set there

Had to dig up this old topic got a 51 1/2 shortbed frame for my 49 suburban going to start working on it i know gas tank mount for sure is different but can some one point out EXACTLY what frame body mounts are different? is it just redrilling holes in the frame?

The gas tank location has some frame mounts and bolts that you will need to transfer from your frame. The suburban has two large body mounts and I believe that the frame has the holes pre drilled in the frame already. You will also have to use the bed support from your suburban. That's the extent of the differences between the truck and suburban frames. By crawling under your 1949 you can see the mounts for the gas tank, the bed and the body. I think that the only one you cannot remove with the body on is the bed supports. Removing the other mounts won't be easy with the body on, but I am sure you can do it.

The 1949 and the 1951 spare tire carriers are different too.

Thanks G i think these are the mounts your refereing too the angle iron looking one there is one on pass and driver side of the frame sorry about the small pics i couldnt get them to resize
