Cool thread! All I remember finding in mine, while rebuilding the bed, was a tiny cast toy of a Jeep FC pickup, just like my dad used to have. Only he had the real thing. The toy was in the right rear stake hole.

This wasn't when I bought it, rather after leaving it in Vermont for 12 years outside, but it is cool- I found some 20 snakeskins woven in the seat springs. Evidently the local garters found it a good skinshedding spot. There were live snakes too, and when a local farmer pulled me out I felt a bit like Indiana Jones, wondering if we'd missed a few snakes. The mouse nest in the muffler sprayed all over the barn on starting- the mice had left on the trip to the barn.

Cleaning out the cab on Sunday, we found:

5 old wrenches
4 mouse skeletons
1 bag full of shredded newspapers (shreded as mouse bedding)
1 U.S. Army issue gas can, with stale gas
1 bottle brake fluid
1 bottle engine oil
Lots of acorns and leaves
1 interior door handle
No keys so far!

The grain bed is full of junk. We haven't even touched that yet.

My 62 Chevy has a utility box/bed, so it has a lot of space for "extra" items.
Such as: One bin (three shelves) held various containers of nails, everything from large framing nails to small finishing nails. In another bin, was glue, varnish, paint remover and unknown contents in un-marked bottles. The highlight to the box contents was a fire extingusher. It is about the size of a 12 oz beverage can and has a pull tab top to activate it.

In the glove box was a 1958 Michigan road map, a can of touch up interior spray paint and a "construction vest pocket calculator" from 1954. I now know what the rate of construction supplies and labor cost.....in 1954.

Things I found in my 55 that had been off the road for 23 years - Some 'new' in package front signal lenses. But the big find was three years of registration from the mid 80's. I Googled the name and state of the listed owner, found a possible match on a quilting site (Female owner). Emailed her, and had a response within 1 hour. We spoke a few days later - Priceless!

Found a "For Sale" sign inside the driver's door with a '92 copyright on sign design in small print at bottom. I found it after owning it nearly three years when I replaced the window and regulator. I tried the number, starved to know anything about the trucks past, but "no hablo."

1958 Apache step side 3200

Behind the seat I found a jug of anti-freeze, a can of brake fluid, the handle to the jack I hope i never have to use, jumper cables, an assortment of rags and gloves, the spout attachment to the gas can mounted on the bed step on the passenger's side, a spout for puncturing an oil can (when it came in cans), in the glove box I found 2 sets of points(one might go to the 283 in the truck, the other no way), a main bearing seal that can not go to this truck, and a thermostat--also a crescent wrench and an ice scraper.

Some stuff can give a clue to some of the issues your truck has and some are just puzzling.

The gold rim spectacles I found still in their case behind the gas tank might explain why the drivers side front fender is so mashed up!

1953 4400 truck. First stash pennies, fuses, light bulbs, wood screws, pecans, hood emblem, all this in the glove box.In the cab behind the seat more pecan pieces, lots of mouse poop, about 40 mud dauber nests and a small C -clamp . Nothing great, no large sums of money or cool pieces of history to hold on to. frown

In my 63 C20 glove box I found the original sales receipt, owners manual, sales brochure, spare fuses, worn out points,1157 bulb, some road maps pre-dating the interstate highway system,a 10" Crescent wrench and a flat blade screwdriver. Under the seat was the original jack with all attachments and a really cool camp axe with Made in Sweeden stamped on the head.

Oh man it's a long list for me! Ok, two fold up hazard signs, 4 bottles of brake fluid, a bottle jack, a fire extinguisher, the e-brake return spring that I needed, an air pump that plugs into the cig lighter (works good too) an old roll of buttwipe wrapped in a cloth, a broken set of fuzzy dice, some rope, 2 wipers, one of then an OE one, the box is dated 1963 (my truck is a 61) in the glovebox there was a few screwdrivers, some bulbs and fuses, a spare rotor, brush set, wheel bearing, trailer wiring hookup, a scribbly note for the owner as to how to hook it up, and wrapped around the steering column was the registration for the truck from the people that owned it in 1988, there was also registration for his gun. I think thats it...ha ha, it's almost like nobody ever cleaned it out!

My 64 C30, was an ex-fire truck, and under the seat I found a fireman's pin that must have fallen off of someones shirt. It now resides in the glove box in his/her honor.

When I took the gas tank out of my 56 3100 chevy, I found a football program that had my brothers picture in it from 1972. I also found a sales award from Joseph Schlitz Brewing company to my Dad from 1977 who owned the truck at the time.

I found a stack of papers clothes pinned to the visor.. Which included insurance papers, registration, lost title claim from 76, and most of all the original invoice from the dealership dated April 16, 1954. In the ashtray was a few drill bits and some links to a chain off a chain saw wrapped in a piece of cloth. Under the seat was a rat nest with a large LIVE rat!!
