Hello, I have two front fenders for my 37 that are pretty rough. I have read alot on here about glass replacements and the two top suppliers seem to be R&R or Superior. Are they the top places as far as quality or are the others. What about Speedway or I&I. Thanks

I put 4 on a 40 pickup from R&R and they were real good. They seemed to be priced lower then the rest as they are direct.

If you use glass, make sure to put a good undercoat on them. They're going to spider web over time and undercoat will slow the process a lot.

I know one bolter that had a problem with a R&R rear fender but I must say I've got front/rear/running board fiberglass, from R&R, on my 37 that have held up great for 10 years now. Me personally, I've have had good success with R&R's hand lapped stuff. (guys name is Richard Keller). Heard good things about R&R...had an issue with Superior not fitting worth a darn. To their credit, they gave me a full refund without any arguement.

I put a set of Superiors on, fit lousy up front near the grill, maybe the repro grill was too big, or maybe the fenders were not right or both.

Rears fit pretty well but couldn't get the last 2 bolts in at the rear - had to drill 2 more holes under the bed side flange and put a dummy screw in the hole that missed.

He at least seemed interested in helping me, ultimately didn't really need it. Rear fix was easy, front was solved at the body shop by filling in the large gap between the fenders where they meet the fender extensions.

do a search in paint and body shop section under fenders. there is plenty of info, personaly i had major issuses with qaulity and custumer service i wuold not recomend r+r to any one at least 46 pickup rear pickup fenders

The main problem with glass parts is the mold they are made from is only good for a limited number of curing cycles. The heat and shrinkage during the cure process cause them to distort. As with any tooling the cost to replace the molds is high so the makers have a tendency to run too many parts before replacing the mold. This results is the mis-fitting parts described above. Assuming the Masters the molds are made from are dimensionally correct, properly braced & stored, a part from a new mold will be far superior to the 100th part out of the same mold.

I have R&R on the front and really like them. I would get the next ones coated with a bed liner next time, they are a little thin and do get stars in the paint from rocks and what not. What ever you spray on them, do it before painting them.

Would you recommend brushing it on yourself or getting it sprayed on?

I would get it sprayed, but do it before painting. We have a company here (Kansas City area) called Amerigaurd bed liner. They can spray anything, even styrafoam, with out hurting it. Its sprayed hot but not enough to hurt the fiberglass. It would be my choice if doing it again.
