My guess is that first gear would be lower. Unless a OD designated transmission, the high, or final gear will be 1.0:1 in most transmissions.
Are you including reverse as a gear to come up with five speeds? I think you usually only call out forward gears to come up with the number of 'gears'...four forward gears would be a four speed box.

I have a 71 manual that lists 7 different 5 speeds for the big trucks, 2 New Process',1 Spicer and 4 Clarks but I don't know how far back they go. My manual doesn't list the ratios either, sorry,

Unless this firetruck was built to run on the highway its probably a 1:1 5th.

He was told the engine & trans was out of a dump truck. 5th gear was overdrive in this trans. I don't know what make the trans was. | | |
