They offer a limited choice of sizes but do have the classic sound. You can get them in a number of places. This guy carries them & sells a lot of them.

PNR123,

Can't tell you about them on an inline application, but I sure love the pair I've got on my flathead.

They sound sweet on a inline I have them on mine. You can get them from Speedway also.

I'm running the 26" length Smithys on my 53 1/2 ton with Fenton headers and original 216 engine. Smithys are available in 22, 26, and 30 inch case lengths. They are all 3 1/2 inch case diameter with 2" inlet and outlet. Summit racing has them as does Reds in California. This topic has been batted around several times in past years and it always boils down to personal preference. I love mine, but my neighbors would probably disagree.

I have a set that I got from a shop in somewhere in Fla. 60 bucks for both of them. I loved them "way back when". I have them still in the box. It seems I can't seem to put them on as the "tone" of the straight pipes on my 37 pickup with 350/700 is addictive. But, I promised my daughter I would change them so she would ride in it. (I'm half deaf grin )

What would one smithy's sound like on a 235 with single exhaust? And does the length make a big difference? Would the long (30 inch) muffler give the low rumble but not be too loud for urban/neighbor comfort? But sound nice.

TIA

Generally the longer the glasspack the quieter it is because the exhaust is in contact with the baffling longer. As to the "goodness" of the sound, what sounds good to one could be different that what's good to another. Smithy's are fairly inexpensive if you wish to experiment.

I've used a pair of 30"'s in the past but would get the 26" next time. 30's are too quiet. Also if you turn them around with the fins facing forward it will be quieter.

I didn't have my question clear enough. I wasn't sure how to ask. How much difference is there between a 'stock' muffler and a 30 inch Smithy?

I don't care for a loud truck but it would be nice for it to have a little rumble. And, yes the Smithy is around $30-35 where the stock mufflers seem to be around $80.

OldBlueTruck I have a single 22 inch Smitty on my 62 1/2 ton 235 c.i. truck and it is very quiet!! I would like to have a little more 'Rumble" without too much noise but haven't been able to find that combination with a single exhaust. Any one have a suggestion?? I did have a very good sound once when an old original muffler burned out inside but haven't had that sound since...

It'll get louder as you drive it & the glass burns out of it. You can speed the process (not recommended by the way) by pulling the muffler, dumping some lighter fluid (that's what we used anyway) into the fiberglass packing and setting it on fire.
