What is the best way to remove add on window tint. My truck looks like a blackout.

Well, I don't know the best way. I have removed that stuff a couple of times. They only wat to effectively remove it is with soapy water and a razor blade. Score the plastic with the razor, spray on the soapy water, let it set, and scrape the stuff off. I have thought about trying a heat gun, but never did. The glue on the mylar is water activated plus the mylar is designed to set in the sun for hours on end. So I don't know if heat applied from the insede would do any good. I hope this helps, Jimmie.

I removed some on a vehicle my son had. The tinting material didn't have the proper decal on it deeming it the correct shade and as my son started trying to take his driving test in it, the person of authority told him he can't take his driving test in it until either the tint was certified or removed. I removed it. The tint came off easy, but I had to wash down the window with lacquer thinner to get the glue off. What a mess!!

I had to remove the tint from my son's truck.
Tint came off easily once I got it started.
BUT it took spraying WD-40 on the glue to get it off.
Spray it on & let it set for a minute or two & then take a razor blade to it.
Prepare to spend some time w/it because it isn't going to just fall off....joe

I have used a heat gun & a razor to get the film off.
Ijust held the heat gun in one spot over the film for about two or three seconds& then scraped that spot with a razor to get it stated & then I peeled it off by hand as much as I could & the do the same thing over again &that seemed to work ok for me.

The preferred method we use at work is the hot air gun,glass cleaner and a fresh new razor blade to remove the glue residue.
Just a point though,if your glass is laminated,don't overheat the glass too much,or burn your fingers!
Depending on the quality of the tint it is possible and if you don't pull too hard,the film and adhesive will virtually come off intact.

Hey John- Jimmie D made a good point: If sitting in the hot sun all day won't affect it, why does a hot gun?

Dave,I suppose it could be peeled whilst sitting in the hot sun,but you would still have to initiate the peeling.
Remember though,I live in the west of Scotland.

We use a hot air gun,simply because you can concentrate the heat in a fanning motion as you pull the film from the glass,you just have to be careful not to overheat/melt any surrounding plastic/rubber trims etc,asbestos fingers help too!

Auto Zone sells a tint removable spray.

...I "scratched" the film some with the razor, squirted some Glass Plus window cleaner on it and it came off fairly easy. It probably depends on how well it got put on as to how it comes off or how long its been on the glass?!

I got it off. Thanks guy's. They even had it on the inside of the windshield. That was the hardest part of it.
