I have some wiring to finish up and I didn't want to be leaning across a newly painted outer fender. The hood is not on yet.

..yup that is how I did mine ...i bolted on the inner fenders an radiator support ...an it was easy to hang the fenders ..finish painted by myself, I used lottsa blue painters tape ..but hung my fenders at 2:00am by myslef. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 1,132 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 1,132 | SW radial, I am going to use your and oldcarandtrucknut's method to assemble the front end sheet metal. How did you know how much to shim up the radiator support or did you just guess at it? I have heard it said to hang the hood first and also to install the front clip as a unit. At 2:AM my brain has already shut off so I will be doing it in the daytime. Thanks for the advice.

Then fit the fenders/adjust radiator support to line up with hood. Kinda tricky. One thing I found out, if your cab mounts are a little out of whack, it screws up how your front sheet metal adjusts. I used a chunk of 1/2" thick belting from a junk conveyor at work to make my radiator support pads ...it werked pretty good.
It si NOT PERFECT but acceptable.

I ask the same question some time ago about "shimming" under the radiator since it seems everyone, at least at that time, were having to raise it up..... so I thought why not do it to start with. The answers back then leaned toward going with what was there original.... if you think the new pieces are exact duplicates!!!????
Tim is on track with the conveyor belt. I have used a lot of old FIRE HOSE under many things on my vehicles. Its tough, has two or three diferent layers and some volunteer fire dept may have and old one laying around. I used it on my panel and it works well especially with the polyester(?) outer layer which will never rot....or not in our lifetime! | | |
