Anybody got anything to say about them?
What about enough power to pull a boat and trailer??
Maintenance/Repair issues?
Anything good or bad?

Guessin a 4.3. If so, thats not a bad motor. Its like having a 350 less two cylinders. Not to sure if I'd pull anything to heavy with it. On the other hand I had a 84 s10 with the 2.8 and pulled a 18.5' Lund boat. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,971 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,971 | I have a 4.3 in a 2WD Chevy 1/2 ton. I love the engine. I'm sure it can handle a 18.5 boat OK. I pull a flatbed trailer with a small tractor and loader. It is not fast, but works out pretty good. I made a 800 mile trip with my truck loaded down with about 800-900+ lbs and it traveled just fine. I was skeptical of V6s up until the time I got this truck. I noticed that it stays in overdrive much better than my 5.3 1/2 ton although there is no comparison in power. I am certainly a fan of the GM 4.3 now. If you end up driving with small loads, or a town driver, it will work out great. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | The 4.3 is a good engine, other than being a known oil leaker. If you're really wanting a 4x4, though, you might want to look into a V8 rather than the V6, especially if you plan on towing. Seems the V8 and V6 are very close on feul mileage in the 4x4s.
