Out comes the 305E V-6, SM-465 and both axles. Back in goes the Detroit 4-53T, RT-610 Road Ranger and the Dana 80 rear axle (with disc brakes). We already have most of the components on hand. And I will be sure to take pics as we go along. Wish me luck in getting further on this than the last time ... Regards, John

I sure am puzzled to why you are still having problems with the V-6 (unless I missed any new updated info on it), but that will be one cool truck with the Detroit along with the Road Ranger.
Keep us posted.

The existing transmission, rear, clutch and brake pedals could be reused, it might be a whole lot less fabricating. The SMC should line up with the pump also. Will the DD have enough rpm to spin the front mounted pump? Just thinking ahead... lol! Aren't *you* the funny one. Seriously, a 350 would probably bolt in but I have a 4-53T and the RT-610 that both need a job. We took some measurements last weekend and it appears to require minimal fabrication or modification -- at the most, we'll need to swap out the tranny cross member. We might have to do some banging on the inner fenders. I still have dibs on that front axle of yours, right? According to Leid's, the 4-53T idles about where the 305 does (~500 rpm) and the pump maxes out around 2,500 RPM which is where the 4-53T cruises, so I think I'm good. Remember -- that pump was designed to be driven by a babbited 235. Dave -- Not your fault. John

I was thinking about all of the little things that make it a pain to do a swap like pedal linkage, exhaust, steering, will the engine crank be at the same height to line up with the pump... etc. Bolting the engine and trans in is the easy part. Front axle is still yours... Mike B | | |
