I figure this has been asked and answered a million times, but I couldn't come up with the right search term to find it, sorry.

So the question is, what AD doors will interchange with what AD cabs? I ask because I have doors from a '53 (1/2 ton) and a lead on a '54 cab without doors. Best I can tell, the pushbutton doors will interchange with each other, but not with the lever-type door handles.

I'm hoping my '53 pushbutton doors will work on the '54 pushbutton cab.

Thanks.

Yes, '53 and '54 doors will interchange nicely.

The lever-type doors and push-button doors will also interchange, as long as you use the correct door-latch striking plate (47-51 or 52-55).

OK, I've got 54 doors and a 47/8 cab. I've got both sets of striker plates, 47-51 and 52-55S1. I can't put the push button strikers on the 47 cab AND be able to close the doors. Is there a trick? Do I need to cut and swap in the centers from the push button plates to the pull down plates?

Search isn't helping me either!

After lots of reading, I find the 47/48 cabs have some differences. Not that I've found that the striker plate areas are part of that difference or not but I'm starting to answer my own question.

Anybody out there in door world that can help?

Somebody will correct me, if this is wrong: I think that the door openings from 47-55 (Advance-Design trucks) are the same. If your 1954 door does not fit/close correctly in the door frame (ie: the 1954 door will not close properly in a 47/48 cab, using a 1954 catch), then your door needs to be adjusted on the hinge bar.

Nope, that thing is shoved ALL the way in. To the point that I'm having trouble with the front edge of the door is hitting the cowl. Maybe there is something else wrong...I'll try the one flipper door I've got and see how it fits!

Thanks for the reply.

You'd be surprised what you can do w/a couple of 2x4's and a jack when it comes to tweaking the doors and hinges. On my own project I had to put the 2x4 between the door & door jam and had to try to close it a couple of times to tweak it out correctly. Along with having to put a jack under the bottom of the door to tweak it up. It closes great now and all the body lines are lined up great.

The doors shell themselves are all basically the same the only differences are in the door handles, latch, striker and if it has wing windows or not.....joe

I'll try the 2x4 thing this weekend. I'm off enough that I can't even close the doors without smacking the plates.

Soooo...what everyone is saying is the simple act of swapping the striker plates SHOULD be all I need to do. Now I've just got to PROVE it!

This is my first try at this and it is NOT going as well as I'd hoped!!

Hey, why not just take the striker plates and stuff off....and see if the door closes?? If it does then you know where to go from there.

Started there. They close with the flipper plates but don't STAY closed. It doesn't activate the pawl.

Dan. The 47-48 doors and cab setup is different from the 54. The latch and striker plates changed. I am not sure how much modification is needed to convert from one to the others.

Please let us know how yours works out

I know the latch and striker plates change. I'm trying to understand how to make the swap. I've just done a bolt on swap from one cab to the other but the push button strikers stick in too far!

With pull down handle striker plates or no striker plates, the doors close. A little snug at the belt line but that is just alignment issues. The problem really looks to be the striker plates for the push button. They stick into the door way a bit and the edge of the door is hitting them.

OK. Faught with the hinges and the strikers. I swapped the latch mechanism out of one of my old rotted doors (yet another part of my mom's truck from when I was 8 going on to serve a better purpose...) and with the original strikers, I've got doors that open and close! The passenger side is TIGHT but functional now.

Man, what a pain that turned into! 54 doors on a 48 cab with 48 strikers and they open and close. Some adjustment may be necessary...
