Any good ideas for a step so I can get in and out of the bed alive? I have access to a good welder or is there something on the market that can work ? Thanks

I've seen steps that mount to a reciever hitch that can be utilized when the tailgate is in the "up" position.

Otherwise just bring some young kid along with you to jump in and out of the bed. They make it look so easy....like when I was a kid.

That was my first thought too, but then I looked in his bucket pictures and his truck has no receiver. Nice looking truck it is too.

Maybe if you bought a cheap 6' wooden step ladder from your hardware store and then cut it down and made some sort of a pin system to hinge it and remove it. Reinforce the ladder a bit more with a bottom piece. Something like this, but homemade.

I'd make tool/storage boxes for under each side of the bed behind the cab. The doors would be drop down and strong enough to be stepped on, or bolt RV steps under the boxes.

That's a good idea. Maybe some sort of box that has an open part to step on and put one on each side,would also fill that void? You looked at the pix in the bucket,thanks.

RAK, I like both of your trucks. However, I REALLY like the flatbed. Nice truck. I have often thought of converting a classic truck to a flatbed.

Anyway, I had a mid '70's truck once with an all steel flatbed and I made a step from two pieces of flat bar with a piece of round bar (the step) welded in between. I welded it to the bottom of the rear bed rail and painted it black to match. You would have to measure how long this assy. has to be for a comfortable step height and still look good. I have seen this same thing on many trucks actually.

Yep, should of looked longer, it is a good looking truck. It might require a little more ingenuity to get up over the good looking side boards, redwood?

I just got the Flatbed '61 from the original owner ! 79,000 miles on the body/odometer. It was his Grandma's truck and he inherited it 10 years ago and spent a bunch of money and time redoing it. The flatbed obviously was added and although it looks a bit modern it also looks like it fits? I was looking for a flatbed and got it on Craigslist San Francisco. Mine runs pretty well, I drive it occasionally, and do I ever enjoy it! Just wish it needed less work, but there's a bright side, I'll learn more this way, ha ha
