In Utah you can use the plates (if the number is free) without charge but you must have a pair. Also they look them up in a book and the colors must match exactly how they look in the book. Just suggesting a check first since it would be bad to restore a set and make them unuseable or invalid depending on local laws. | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 446 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 446 | Try swap meets as well. The larger swap meets usually have a vendor who sells and restores them. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 | | | | | Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 101 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 101 | Go to Licenseplates.tv They make EXACT replica plates - completely indistinguishable from restored originals.
I did one for my recently restored and sold '76 Porsche. In California, '76 just happened to be the first year for personalized plates. So I went on the DMV website and picked a custom plate number, ordered it. Then ordered a '76 replica plate. When the DMV notified me the custom plates were in, I picked them up. I put the sticker on the blue replica and viola! PERFECT replica '76 California blue plate with number that matches the registration.
This site will not ship to California (don't know their policy on Oregon) so I had it shipped to an out of state friend who shipped it to me. They cost $75 each so I bought one. Had Kinko's make a color copy on card stock for the front one and put it in a frame with a cover on it.
Eventually I will do this for my '46 truck. Hope this helps.

You'll see everything there, and it's a great source of knowledge if you have a question.Free admission and parking (not many things in life are free anymore). As it turns out, it looks like the show may not be there this year. That's too bad, i'll miss going...

I got my 1956 truck plate at a car show at the NC State Fair Grounds in Raleigh a couple of years ago and picked up a Raleigh city plate this year.
Watch out that you get a truck plate and not a car plate. In North Carolina they are different. Car plates start off with 2 or 3 letters and then a dot and 2 or 3 numbers. Truck plates start with numbers and then the letters. City plates don't seem to matter. Usually, you can get the plate you want cheaper at a car show than on line, plus you can see what you are getting up close.
I was going to,get a YOM plate for my recently purchased '71 C-10, but I found one under the seat!
Best of luck in your search!
best wishes,

Good condition, $50 to $75. Mint condition, $100 to $150. Go over to Ebay, main page, enter "texas truck license" and search. You will be surprised. A bigger surprise is run "texas farm truck license".
I will give you my wife for a pair of 1949 Oklahoma farm truck plates. She is Choctaw, a tab bit ornery, but a lot of fun when she is not cussing at you in her native tongue.
