old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! I had been wanting to get a truck for some time. I recently got married and my wife wants to buy all sorts of wood furniture. Being pretty handy with woodworking, i told her i could make everything she wants if i had the necessary tools, but some of them are pretty big so i need a truck to get them home! I wanted an older truck that i could actually use as a truck and not worry about scratching it up. i started looking at the 67-72 style, then looked further back, and further, until i got to the 41-46 style and new thats what i had to have. i found mine on ebay and fell in love. i swear the last 2 days of that auction were the longest of my life, but i won it and my dad and i headed from oskaloosa iowa to the middle of arkansas (jesseville), just a casual 11 hour drive down (slightly longer to get back, due to the precious cargo). There isnt much more nerve racking than hauling your new truck through the winding mountains of arkansas with fog reducing visibility to the point where we could barely see the front of the hood! The previous owner bought the truck in 96 and drove it for a year and then parked it in his garage, intending to restore it, but didnt get around to it. at some point between 97 and 09 it was pushed outside to make room in his garage. It currently resides in my dads garage near oskaloosa. i live in muscatine iowa nearly 2 hours away so i try to make weekend trips whenever i can to work on it. i've got the interior pretty well stripped and ready to start sanding so i can get a coat of paint down. the interior is the only thing i plan on "restoring" at this point, just so my wife wont be grossed out to ride along with me. the truck isnt running yet, but engine is free. i'm waiting on my brother-in-law to get out of the field to help with that. hes a bit of a guru of all things engine. hopefully over the winter we get it running, get some new rubber on it, get the brakes fixed and the interior done so i can drive it come spring. whats the point of a goal if it isnt lofty? Love the site. i'm just getting started but its a great reassurance to know where to turn when i have a problem.

That truck is gonna make one sweet ride. Looks like you got plenty of room to work on it and the right ideas about fixing the inside for the wife! One word of caution. These old trucks are CHIC MAGNETS so be careful how big you smile when a lady drives up and smiles as she checks it out...... you don't have have to ask how I know!! Thanks for the pics and keep us posted on the progress, and ask your questions in the best forum for lots of help. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 2,990 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 2,990 | Nice looking truck. What shape was the box in? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 5 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 5 | Its not in bad shape. Its got some rust but thats to be expected. At some point, someone welded a plate to the sides right over top of the wood floor. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 2,990 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 2,990 | That must have been a common fix in those days. The '46 1 ton pickup my Dad had when I was a kid also had a steel floor. When you crawled underneath, you could see what was left of the wood floor boards. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 584 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 584 | Great truck Chris! It is a beauty. When was that truck on Ebay? I think I saw it also. It does have a charm about it. It is weird how some vehicles just...I don't know....'feel good' if that is a good way to put it. I guess your truck has the 'it factor'. Looks like you'll be having a lot of fun with it.
I have a 49 that has a metal floor welded in as well.

This is a great site for all information - and encouragement - and I couldn't have finished mine without it.
