Hey all,
As I mentioned in my intro post I have a '46 1/2 ton with no bed (my grandfather's old farm truck). I'm doing a resto on it and I was wondering if anyone has pictures of a well-done 1/2 ton '39-'46 with a wooden flatbed? I'm curious how to make the rear wheels not stand out so much, and how to do a tasteful rear fender setup for it. If you've got a pic of a 40's ford with a nice flatbed that's fine by me too, just trying to gather together ideas on how to make a nice looking flatbed for a truck of this vintage.

John, My 53 is a 3/4 ton with factory flatbed, you may be able to copy the look of it. The factory flatbed didn't use fenders which i think is a plus, don't have to worry about denting the things. Mine had mud flaps mounted to a stip under the bed, which I've removed now that I got rid of the duallys. I've seen some rods that were scaled down 3/4 tons and they look good if kept to something similar to factory. You may want to spend some time looking through the gallery to get some ideas.

I have a 49 Ford F1 (1/2 ton) with a factory flat bed. Apparently there were very few 1/2 ton flat beds made. Ford did a few but I don't think Chevy did one from the factory. Ford does use fenders. There is a picture of my Ford at http://web.nmsu.edu/~donf/

I know this is a really old thread at this point, but I'm still going back and forth between buying a repro bed for my '46 or building a good looking flatbed. I'd like to be able to use the truck to haul some gas engines to shows and such, and a flatbed would certainly suit my needs better for that, but the original bed looks so good. Anyone got any more good pictures?

Hey JOhn,
I am not sure if you have any interest at all in the bed that is currently on my truck? It is certainly not original or pretty, but certainly heavy duty. Just a thought since you are close to me.
