Pull the plugs and inspect for oil fouling. If your exhaust is clean and clear then most likely the valve pan is leaking and just running down and around. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | Sure it's not just a black water trail, condensation, coming from an exhaust leak? Exhaust smokes blue, plugs are black.
I have three spots on the block where there are drips building up.
In a recent valve job, I replaced the valve seals, used NOS valves, ground and lapped them but did not knurl the guides. I suspect either the valves are leaking oil into the cylinders or the rings are bad.

I decided to try and save the 216 and not to go through a rebuild but it looks like it is not going to work out. Strange thing is I had good compression after the valve job. All except one at 120 and one at 110. Not the best, but acceptable. I will do another one when I get a chance and see what, if anything has changed. Also there was almost no ridge in the cylinders when I had it apart. I didn't bother to mic them at that time and it looked like they still had some cross hatching on the walls from a honing.

So would bad valve seals.
