For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 920 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2004 Posts: 920 | I'm driving from the Puget Sound to Wyoming next week in my truck with my 6 year old boy. I'll be going thru Ellensburg, Yakima, Pendleton, Baker, Boise and Ogden and then back the same way. The truck is tip top and I'm looking forward to the drive. I'm putting together a safety kit just in case, but I trust this truck to make it more than I would my daily drivers. I expect to average 65 mph and get 18 to 20 mpg. Better if the wind is at my back and worse if it's head-on. I'll drive in four 7-8hour segments in the early mornings. Anyone know how construction is on I-84? Wish me luck! | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | GOOD LUCK.... and may the wind be at your back. Sounds like fun especially with your son. He'll remember it for the rest of his life. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | Be sure to give us daily reports and take lots of pictures. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 . | | . Take a few spare parts just so you won't need them.

Wish more folks would take the time to do this with their kids. I'm jealous, I have to stay at home. A couple weeks ago, I drove my '49 Pontiac 1700 miles on a road trip, camping. A few spares and tools are all you need, as you know. Once your vehicle gets to a certain level of reliability, not much goes wrong.
Have a great trip!!

Here's a 1953 GMC Going cross country with his 14 year old son and I bet you will be crossing paths with Ken and his 1950 GMC who is coming back to Washington with his 11 year old. | | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 920 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2004 Posts: 920 | Well... I made it to Wyo today. Left Seattle at 1:00pm Sunday and arrived in Nampa at about 9:30. 109 degrees in Prosser when we stopped for gas. Truck ran great. My ave speed was much higher than I planned! Needless to say gas mileage was only about 15 -16. Today I went 400 miles from Nampa to Evanton in 5 1/2 hours. Truck cruises at 80 so long as no hill. Engine temp got to about 195 at the highest but normally hung around 180 -185. Spiked twice to over 200 on the steepest hills on Sunday between Yakima and Ellensburg and that hill just east of Pendleton. Was able to hang on every hill at 60 in 4th and got a bit warm at the top. Didn't use any oil or water. Had the wind at my back sometimes. I hope the way back next week goes so well. I'll update then! BTW thanks for the links and thoughts! | | |
