I have actually been a member here as long as I have been one at ChevyTalk. I just havn't been posting. I thought I'd advertize the truck meet over here and that started me posting again.

I have another manditory shutdown from work coming next week, so I'm gearing up for the re-assembly stage of my re-built '89 Suburban front end so I can throw it under my '66.

A local camper here has a Longhorn which is for camping. I think its a 71....is that what your talking about? He is a bolter but may not see this post. You can see his blue truck in the Southern Stovebolt reunion pics in the events/gabfest sections....if its what your talking about.

OK this information is from a 1966 Chevrolet camper brochure. These is what the custom camper package included.
1. Custom Appearance
( bright metal windshield moldings, grill, cab trim plate, special steering wheel with chrome horn ring, 2 tone door panels & chrome instrument knobs)
2. Custom Comfort
(Nylon & vinyl trimmed foam seat, left armrest, right sun visor, right door lock, cigarette lighter, & special cab insulation to reduce noise and heat)
3. Custom Chrome
(Chrome front bumper & hub caps)
4. Deluxe Air Heater
(3 - speed blower)
5. Tinted Windshield
6. Manual Radio
(AM only could get as an option AM FM push button)
7. Left & right West Coast mirrors
(7" x 16")
8. Front stabilizer bar
9. Heavy duty rear shock absorbers
10. Auxiliary rear springs
11. Over sized tires
12. Custom Camper identification emblems

The Custom Camper option was only available on 3/4 ton pick ups and 3/4 ton chassis cab models for 1966. In 1967 with the new body style it was offered on all pick ups and chassis cabs.

All the above options could be had separately except the ID badge.

Hey Hilander, I have a 65 Custom Camper, I'm wondering If anyone knows if they ever came with 3 on the tree. I have the build sheet that was behind the seat and the vin matches. When I got the truck it had an SM 420 but had the low hump, and the 3sd column. I converted it over to high hump the correct way. It had a 292 originaly. 292 3 on the tree Custom Camper????? It is a factory Custom Camper. All the stuff listed above was there. John

As far as I can find out, there really wasn't a certain transmission that was part of the Custom Camper package. It seems that any transmission could be ordered with the Custom Camper truck and your build sheet proves it!

I couldn't persuade you to scan that puppy in hi-rez and send it to me could I? It would be a nice addition to my new Custom Camper web page!

you could even get a 4 x 4 with a 292 3pd which really sounds peculiar but you could get it

As far as I know there were no Custom Campers in the K20 series. Not that someone didn't order one like that, but it seems to me that it wouldn't exactly fit the slide-in camper format of the day.

Of course I wasn't exactly aware of such things at the time, I was only 3 years old when the first Custom Camper rolled off the assembly line.

Yes Johner you could get a 3speed that is according to the sales brochure. I have seen a picture of a k 20 with the camper package in a book. Granted there proly weren't very many in that configuration.

I knew that 73-87 would bolt up. Do you know what later years will bolt up to a 65 without modification, or much of it? Dave

Hilander I have a 1968 GMC 3/4 ton 305 V6 4 speed with granny gear and has the Custom Camper emblems right above the door handles on both doors. And two hooks on each side of the bed to tie down the slide in camper.

Regarding front-end compatablility - I'll let you know the details after next week because I'm going in with it then. The company I work for is making us take another week long furlough so I thought I'd make the best of it!

I've got a 63, pretty positive its a camper special. It has the special steering wheel, front and rear chrome bumpers, chrome grill, custom flags on the cab and left and right sun visors, someone changed the door mirrors, but it had west coasts, and the original bed is still in it with two holes for power cable and a drain. Guy I bought from told me it had a over the cab camper at one time and swears by the mileage of 44,000. Also the tail gate is mint with only one tiny ping in one letter. This truck was built in Ohio and came out with a 230, 3 on the column. I'm in the process of doing a 5 speed trans swap and when pulling the clutch discovered that it was an 11" which was a heavy duty option and I only found the parts listed for the C10 panel truck. Didn't have special badges, but some things have been changed over the last couple of owners.
