| | | | | Ixnay Unregistered | | Ixnay Unregistered | I am looking at 1968-72 C20s. All I see listed are AT, no 4 speeds unless the rig is also 4WD. I would prefer a manual tranny. What say you, oh wise sages? Should I hold out for a manual or buy the 350 auto?
Follow up to that query: is the THM 350 preferred to the Muncie 4 speed? What are the concerns/pitfalls with either type?
My requirements: hauling yard supplies, occasional hunting. No camper, no boat, no stumps to pull.

I have always been an auto fan. The THM350 is hard to beat, except for no overdrive.
The next guy will tell you to go for the 4 speed. We all have our preferences and there is no right answer, it is what works best for you.

You get used to it like anything else though. I wanted to get a manual myself, but the truck came with an auto. I know guys who only drive autos and will tell you to get an auto, I also know the guys that drive manuals in everything, and they will tell you to get a manual. It all depends on you. I like the manual, I would like to get one eventually. I'd say that with the applications specified, you could get away with the C-10 for sure. I don't know what things are like in your area, but 1/2 tons are most prevalent. If you can't find a 3/4 ton with a manual tranny, you won't find a 1/2 ton with one. The THM-350 is arguably the best auto tranny ever made.
