I have a door that has been wrecked and has a 3 inch in depth dent in it but the window still rolls up and down locks work ,everything is cool ,but I cant get the old bolts out of the door to get the components out ,all the rest of the bolts Ive gotten out I ve broken them so I'm expecting something bad to happen .On the positive side I have another door ready to go,just the door shell no copenents in it.The question is I thought of chopping the door half way down from the copenents down and use the donor half to replace the chopped half I would leave pics in the Gallery but I havnt figured out how to download pics yet

if you don't mind trashing the door i suppose that will work too. I don't remember having that much trouble stripping my doors though. I may have been lucky YMMV

Rubber hammer on surrounding area if you can, lightly, while doing this. Do you have 4 hands? Don't forget to put the driver in reverse!!!!

| | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | the best trick - that most don't use - is always start removing rusty bolts/screws by tightening them with one good smuck [ratchet or impact driver], they'll usually turn just enough to break loose so you don't strip the head trying to get'em out .... if they still won't come out, tighten them until they break off

If you have to drill them out you can always move up in size just a bit and use a pan head. It won't be counter sunk but if it means saving a door its worth its worth it.
Keep the penetrating oil sprayed on them for a day or two. Heck spray it down the inside of the door by sticking a "straw" down the window slot and soak it good.
