Hey all,

The hoist on my 1950 1.5 ton dump has gotten slow as it gets to the top, and sometimes you can hear the pump cavitating.

So, I'm thinking I need to add some hydraulic fluid. Got the bed up and securely propped. Then excavated all the gunk to find a fill plug ... with no luck.

Where in the heck do you add the oil? The only fill plugs I see seem too low.

Sorry for the silly question...

Some pictures:

The pump:

The cylinder:

Thanks for any advice...

It's the plug on top of the cylinder. Add some fluid and let the hoist down without the plug to be sure it's not over filled,

Have a look at the fluid. If water has gotten in, it will look like chocolate milk, not good!

Thanks, guys ... I felt pretty dumb for not just looking under that cover. Fluid looked like dirty oil (not water) and new fluid made things work fine. The pump leaks a little bit, but that's another project...
