I have searched the forums and can't find where someone says how to remove the steering column from the steering box. Maybe it is not possible, if not, then do I have to remove the steering wheel and pull the cab over the steering column?

The column doesn't separate from the box. The easy way to do it would be to remove the steering wheel, pitman arm, and the 3 bolts holding the box to the frame, then remove the steering box assembly before you remove the cab.

The shop manual explains how to remove wheel, steering wheel, disconect horn wire, steering rod in order to remove steering box/column. It will all come out from the bottom side.

Can you remove the box and leave the pitman arm on it? I would have thought the shafts could be taken off the ball joints but I can't get them apart on our '52 3100.

We have been through this a few times before and some people say you can remove the whole works with out getting the truck up on a lift. I don't have a lift, by the way. I've looked at this a dozen times and that just does not look possible. I'd sure like to see a couple of pictures of one being dragged out the bottom with the cab and engine still on. Mostly to just see what was used to get the truck up high enough to get the gear out.

Denny, I did it but the fenders/inner and outer were off and the weheel. I could turn/twist it around pretty good and I guess you could say I brought it out the "side" at an angle.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

How does the steering linkage come off? I ended up taking the pitman off.
