First time poster here:
I have a 1951 3100. All the 1951 components are there (turn down handles, vent windows and 80 mph speedometer). However, the VIN comes back as being built in May of 1952. What is up with that? Technically do I have a 51 or 52?

It possible a P.O has changed the Vin plate?
Or your truck was assembled with the very last of the factory's 51 parts inventory?

I'm not sure if Chevy trucks were built outwith the mainland factorys.
I was into VWs a while back and some were built as CDK (basically kits) by smaller production lines.i.e South Africa
Consequently some cars got older parts than the production year suggested. It resulted in some mongrels!
Someone else will chime in with more suggestions soon!

Old stock was being put into fleet trucks in those days. Navy, Post Office, Highways-spec trucks would get the tail of last year's parts.

Well, it depends on which technicality you adhere to.

If the VID plate on the driver's door jamb is the original plate and it indicates 1952, you have a 1952 truck.

hotshoe36's theory seems reasonable and it is certainly possible. Look at it this way, you'll have a good time explaining this to people who might be interested in these sorts of discrepancies.

I appreciate the input. Interesting, I was a die hard '51 fan now I have an identity crisis. I'll gladly hear any other possible explanations/resolutions.

Yeah Rustednuts, I am a CH-"53" helicopter pilot. I should've forseen what 53 means in this community. I think I set myself up to take all kinds of jabs with that user name. Well deserved Ha Ha!

No you shouldn't have an ID crisis new guy. You have a 51 built in 52. That's easy enough. With vent windows and pull down door handles you are the proud papa of a baby 51, a little late in gestation.

I'm in almost the same situation... My '51 was built in December of '50 and when it was re-titled the bureaucrat behind the desk decreed that it was a 1950 come hell or high water.

If that's not bad enough, I live in one of those states that allows you to use a vintage tag and I have to tool around (or I used to) in my '51 with '50 plates.

My 1949 is registered as a 1950. Reason being the farmer who bought it originally only registered it a year after owning it. My VIN shows 1949 and I'd like to tell the licensing authorities that it is really a 49 and not a 50 but figure that when I tell that to a government employee they may have to form committees, study it to death and give it to a PR firm to render a decision. Ergo I will not say a word!

What are some of the differences in the '47 thru 54 truck bodys?
I just bought a '49 3600 series and I'm looking for a few things for it.

47 thru 53 pretty much the same but 54 and 55 first series are different.
