I was just getting ready to buy the standard Sun Supertach II.

However, I thought that a gauge that goes to 8K RPM is sort of pointless for my old 235. Anyone find a good, legible-faced tach that has a lower scale?

I have one in my box of parts to install that was intended for a diesel. I think it tops out at 4K, maybe 5, I don't remember for sure. The wiring is not the same as a standard tach, though so I'm not sure it will work.

You might want to consider one of the older Sun Tachs. I see allot of them at the swap meets and on eBay. I've seen them from 2,000 RPM's up. These are the ones that have the under hood sending units that can be converted to modern technology to avoid having the batteries in the sending unit. Williamson's Instruments in Chester, Arkansas does the conversions.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. 55T, I did have my hands on a diesel tach a long time ago, and that particular tach would not work on my gas application at the time.

If anyone cares, I'm ordering the AutoMeter 2890 Tachometer. It's a 4K tach with black 2 5/8" housing. It should do the trick - legible but not huge.

I got one of those AutoMeter Tachs a few months ago. I think it is great. Besides having a reasonable scale, it is backlighted, and can be mounted on the steering column.

I like it, too.
I just wish it were available with a chrome bezel.

I did a search of Auto Meter tachs and found a 4K, 3 5k's, and a 6000 model. They are available but you have to look. Model 2508 is a 4K in 2-5/8" black that I liked.

Look for a tach drive distributor....rare, but easy to use.

This tach was given to me so the price was right and I used it. It goes to 8000 RPM which is probably way past redline for a 283 so I will set the movable shift indicator for the proper redline once I find out what that is. It is a Sunetune mini-tach with a 2 5/8 housing. Home made bracket.

Not to bust your chops, but, why would you put that in front of those awsome Dolphin gauges? Those are the coolest gauges.

Ya should see the HUGE 5" Sun Tach, with shift light mounted on my dash right next to the windshield seperator bar!
My wife got it for me for X-Mas ...an I had to use it...ya know how that works..SHE WAS SO PROUD CHRISTMAS MORNIN..lol
