I plan to use the slide barrels from MAR-K to secure the tailgate but the tailgate braces are a bit pricey. I have seen a few others that have used stock looking modern cables or folding flat bars. What works best, what did any you use & can you detail the install & from what type donor did the parts originate? Thanks.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I used polished Stainless " Deck Hatch " latches. Welded the post portion into the top of the tailgate ( inside face ), and screwed the latch portion onto the inside of the box at the stake location. Flexible and cheap, about $2.50 for the tube.
