Fortunately my neighbor has let me borrow his old gas company truck. I was able to pull the engine out of my '48 panel that's been sitting for ten years. It lifts so easy. Now that the rain has returned my progress is delayed. The next step is to pull a 350 connected to an automatic from the donor truck. If all goes well, I may just buy the hoist truck. I now live on a farm with my folks in Northern Wisconsin with a 40x48 heated slab shop.... I don't miss the dirt days.  Look into seeing what some low-grade concrete would cost you.. 4" of 4-bag (6 bag is standard concrete.) mix is fairly cheap for a 20x20 or so area and would be a great thing to have. You'll never regret it..

I have taken bits of a '74 suburban frame and mated a '74 suburban front end with a '48 panel. The whole driveline as well. IFS, power steering/power breaks, dropped in, just like that. The enging drops right in, and tranny. Next the rear end, custom driveshaft, steering column, brakes, pedals. Yep, that's why I typically now stop working on my truck around 11 PM. Mom came out to the garage last summer around 1 AM and kicked my foot and told me to go to bed. I use a dryer box when the garage is occupied, and its a big upgrade from the dirt spot I wore in the yard. | | |
