Can anybody recommend a "sloshing sealer", or offer any tips for cleaning/sealing my gas tank? A forum search yielded no results. If it starts comeing loose you will be in a worse mess. If a new tank is readily available for your model I think that is the way to go. If its minor rust you can put a in line filter under the tank & check it often at first. If its serious rust & there is no replacement available use the sealer but follow directions to the T & dont rush it.

A second, more thorough search of the forums turned up many discussions of this topic. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,096 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,096 | I have used a similar product in the tank of my '39, unfortunately it was 30 yrs ago and I dont remember the name of it , however , during the 6 yrs that I used it as my work truck, there was never another problem with the fuel delivery or storage.

My Dad and I sealed the gas tank, worrying about rust... The truck sat for a year while we rebuilt the enigne, and yes there was gas in the tank- not so good. The sealer began lifting and coming off in sheets. We eventually cut a big hole in the top of the tank, and cleaned it out, and welded it shut. It was safely done though.
That being said, the fault must have been ours, as airplane guys and gals use it all the time. Burning the tank out with acid.Sealing the tank.Im very happy with how it came out. Hasnt been a problem yet and I doubt it will be. I spent an awful lot of time prepping it which I think is the key to applying the sealer correctly and the main reason why other sealers fail. Always remember safety if you decide on the acid route!
