Hi, did anybody tried a sway bar on a standart 1946 chevy p/u frame?

I put one on my 58 & it improved the handling/driving. One thing I would stay away from is the steering stabilizer, sideways shock absorber. I tried one of those & it was scary. They do work good on vehicles with power steering though.

Sway bars were used on panel trucks in 41-46. I'm also interested in installing one on my truck, but information is hard to come by. Maybe one the panel guys out there could offer some information!

Anti-roll bars are a good idea.

Don't know if the the one in your link will fit a '46. However, $139 (or $149 for the plated model) looks like a good price. I should consider one of those for my truck.

If you are looking for a testimony on this; I can assure you if you put sway bars front and rear you will love the change.

I just bought one of the sway bars like the above link shows. It just came yesterday and looks really well built,I paid $139 plus shipping since its powder coated and not the plated one.

I plan to install it on my '37. It shouldn't be much different then the 41-46 or even the 47-54 chassis. I have a original Chevrolet sway bar from a '39, but I think it might be from a car and adapting it looked to be complicated.

I will keep you posted on the instillation. Joe

I'm running the factory front bar on my 46 pickup, works good and it's a bolt-in. I was lucky finding a smashed 46 suburban in a wrecking yard many years back and got all the bits and pieces. I believe I paid around $10!

Hi Joe H. I can take some pics for you, cannot post but could send via email. Let me know exactly what info you need. There are unique bracketry on these truck sway bars where it attaches to the springs and frame etc.

Jan, I sent you a private email. As these sway bars only came on panels and suburbans they are very difficult to find. An aftermarket bar shouldn't be to difficult to make work.

I got the sway bar mounted on my '37 yesterday. Its the '47-'54 sway bar all the venders sell. It was a easy swap and only took one extra bracket to make it work. I am working on a tech tip to show how it went together if I can get Peg to posted for me. Joe

This kit will fit your front axle OK because it picks up the axle mountings between the springs; the spring spacing on your '46 is the same as on the later trucks.

If you have the front crossmember in the same place as the later trucks, the two chassis brackets that come with the kit should fit as well.

Here's a photo of this swaybar fitted to my '50 truck to give you an idea of what it looks like installed.

Joe H, I'd like to see your tech tip. I've been pondering putting a sway bar on my 46 but wasn't sure about the fit. If it fits on your 37 it should work on my 46.

Ok, maybe I will add sway bars. But this is where I draw the line on the mods!

will this work as well with a must. 2 crossmember? my panel did have one but i am not keeping the original susp. under it

I would think it will since most of the vender's sell sway bars for the MII, just check out e-bay, you will get a 100 hits for MII sway bars. Joe
