can anyone share the information on the canister oil filter,how to clean it and what material to use.Is there a modern oil filter adapter that i could use that would not cost a arm and leg.thanks
no more than i will be driving it, would you suggest keeping the old one.

They would have came with two sizes (or none) in '53 from the factory. Measure the size of the cannister to determine if you need the tall filter (somewhere around 8" tall) or the small filter (around 4-5").

These old filters can be picked up off the shelf at Napa for $8-10. Ill look around and see if I can come up with the part number. You may also be able to take the old filter out of the cannister and look for a number on the side of the filter.

Or, if you know if it's a FRAM or an AC brand (Fram has dimpled bottom, AC smooth cone shaped bottom) and you have the year of your truck (1953), your local auto parts store should have them in stock. They may also want to know the engine size (216, 235, etc.) Like rustednuts said, about $10. I have restored over 30 of these canisters, if you have any questions on paint, oil line fittings or decals, don't hesitate to give out a shout. Wada

need to know all of that, i just found out today its a 235. i had to take it off tempoarly because of the hose leaking, any info would be great.
