For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 48 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 48 | OK, some of y'all knew I was messing with this truck for my 77 year old dad (he had a 1949 5 window when I was a kid and had to sell it for hospital bills when my sister was born in 64). In order to expedite it's finish I left it as the "shop truck" look instead of doing it as a full resto. Hey, dad's 77 and I didn't want to take 3 or 4 more years, you know? Anyway, here's the link to where I uploaded pix of the build from beginning to end: http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/20299079 They're in reverse order but I don't know how to put them in the order I want, so you have to work up from the "bottom". I delivered it to dad in Oregon in time for the "Back to the 50's" run in Grants Pass a couple of weeks ago and we were able to participate in the Cruise/parade with all the other rods and such. It was a great time for dad. I learned a lot from you guys on this forum and I have to give you many THANKS! for all the help so I could finish the project. Note to anyone in the body and fender forum: Someone told me how to do the inner to outer cowl piece. I thought I could pull it off from the inside without removing the outer cowl, fender, drilling all the spot welds, etc. (in the interest of speed). Well, I DID pull it off (you'll see one photo), but I think it took almost as long to do and I'm not sure if I'd do it again (plus, it was only a partial replacement since much of the inner to outer cowl was OK)...let me know if you want to know exactly how I did it. Well, now it's on to either my 29 Ford truck project, or the 52 Ford 2 dr. I have a couple flatheads hangin around, so... I have a weakness for trucks with company logo on the doors. It's very cool that you were able to do this for your Dad;I wish I could have done something like this for my father before he passed away,I think he'd get a kick out of the trucks I have now though. All I can say is that it's a 4 speed with a granny... As far as the door signage (somenone mentioned that...), I have to thank my buddy, Jake, for the idea. When I was mentioning how much more time it was going to take to pull her apart for paint (a whole other can of worms I just didn't want to open), it was him who stood back and said I should just buff out what I could and leave the paint as it was. He'd do the signage and striping for the "old shop truck" look. I made up a rough draft of the door design in Paintshop Pro and printed it out (which I've added to the online photo album). Jake went from that and painted it on the door. We sanded with 2000 grit to "age" it and then buffed it out to make the look complete. Oh yeah, my dad's name is Hank, he used to manage Chevron stations, he was born and raised in Salina, KS, and the phone number is an old one that I (and my dad) remember as my cousin's from back in the day, and that's how I came up with the logo. Oh yeah, I finally figured out how to put the photos pretty much in order from the day I got the truck. If you need the link again, it's: http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/20299079 Once more, I have to extend my thanks to everyone who lent a hand to me here on the Stovebolt forum. I definitely could NOT have done this on my own without everyone's help.
