My wife wouldn't let me take my 2 year old grand daughter in the truck unless she was in a child safety seat, so I put in the lap belts and took her for a ride! She loves her grandpa and the firetruck! :-) | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 | Sat in my easychair, read classic trucks mag. and looked out my window at the snow coming down. | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 1,026 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 1,026 | I thought I was making progress on the serpentine swap. I initially had purchased a set off an '89 Suburban. Found out it wouldn't work on the TPI swap because the a/c bracket was directly in front of the throttle body. So I located a a/c bracket from a Camaro but found out the hard way that the alternater bracket needs to be swapped too. They look fine until you put the belt on and see that there is about a 1/2" in the two. Lesson learned, when doing a swap like this it's best to start with a complete motor with everything on it. That will save alot of time and money. I was so frustrated that I seriously thought about sticking a carb back on it and call it good. At least it would be running by now.

Let's see...finished up the back part of the floor where the tank used to sit, cut a big hole in the back of my cab and replaced it with good metal...oh, and put the 9" in!! We went up to grab a posi out of the post office, but all we had left were 31 spline, and not 28 spline. So, I guess we're going to have to grab one at Maple Grove this saturday.
I post pics of the new floor later. It turned out really nice for making my own pans! | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,442 Bolter | Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,442 | Couldn't work on the truck this weekend. Spent my time ordering and installing a video camera surveilance system and an alarm on my house. See post from a week ago (3/17) in the Greasy Spoon and you'll know why.

Isn't that the way it goes? I have had my Walker radiator in the box for over a year now and would like to install it but the radiator support is still at the body shop. I'm tempted to go get it and just paint it black with the rest of the support ingredients and get that radiator bolted on and out from under the truck.

The alternator/PS backet was from a truck instead of a TPI.

Twelve hours of fun in the sun...getting really hot....will probably be the last weekend of the 200+ shows as May and September are "Lovebug" months....nasty little blind mosquitos that will swarm in clouds.....their smashed carcesses will eat through clearcoat in a matter of hours and clog a radiator completely. Bug screens are mandatory!!!
Fuel prices dominate the causual conversations and the Big Block folks are getting a little nervous. Thankfully, the 54 can nurse a gallon of gas.....still trying for 22 mpg but traffic is going to have to slow down to 55 mph to make it happen.
Been following RATRODKINGS adventures with his pristine 57....has done a great job with his tactful lowering of the truck....and am scouting out a SBC for my latest project. I have much to learn about the GM bent 8 engine. Hope all of you are enjoying the spring as much as we are down here!

I still managed to pull one of the rear shackle bushings and put in a replacement. I listened to all the advice on how to get the old bushing out and decided to use a grade 8 bolt rather than mess with a grade 5. Got the old bushing out with no problems. Then I broke the grade 8 bolt while driving the new bushing in, had the nut up against a 1/4 inch plate that was skewed a bit and rolled a thread. Gonna try not to do that again! | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,877 Socket Breaker | Socket Breaker Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,877 | I rotated my tires on Friday, so I snuck it in before the weekend I guess.
I went to a car show yesterday and there were bunches of trucks like mine there, so I was snapping away with the camera.
What did you guys and gals do to or with your trucks?
