The spin-on filter bracket holds two filters. However, I ordered the gm style adapter not knowing that no gm filters have the bypass valve built into the filter. If I use two, two quart gm filters (each rated 9 gpm hot) will it have enough flowability at cold temperatures that I won't need a bypass valve?

If your adapters' filters are in series, the flow rate is that of one filter not two

These are hot flow ratings. The little info that I could find indicated that the bypass valve is needed for plugged filters or cold oil. But since I have two filters, is it OK to not have the bypass valve?

You can do the real world test, see what happens or play it safe and go with Ford spec filters on another adapter

During high engine speeds when the pump is at full capacity, the bypass usually opens insuring the engine bearings get full oiling. But you have two filters, perhaps the bypass isn't needed. On the other hand, spending another 50 bucks for a dual filter head for use with bypass filters may be cheap insurance.

Near the back of the catalog, there is a listing of filters suitable for remote mount and includes thread size, bypass valve settings, etc. The catalog stresses the need for a bypass valve. There are only a couple of 13/16"-16 filters with a bypass valve. The one recommended, a 1072, is the only one which has a bypass valve, an anti-drainback valve, and a gasket OD that fits the remote filter mount. The 1072 was not a stock item. I'll check into the flow rating of the 1072 and decide whether or not to get the remote mount withe the 3/4"-16 threads. To anyone contemplating a full flow conversion: get the 3/4"-16 type. You'll have a lot more options.
Napa also sells spin-on bypass filters and adapters for large and small gas and diesel engines.
