Howdy Stovebolters,

I’ve been browsing the site for some time and recently decided to start taking some part in the discussions and sharing that makes this site what it is. I’ve been quite impressed by the support and tutorials provided by some of the members. Like many of you, I’ve spent most of my life making and fixing things. I suspect that it has been broader and more in depth than some, so I’m hoping that I too may make some sort of contribution.

I also am hoping that when I find myself stumped, that I’ll find the support I may need in restoring my own “Stovebolt”. For years I’ve wanted to take on such a project, but like many I have been at the business of raising a family and taking care of business. I’ve assisted many people with their projects ranging from lawnmowers to airplans, but never had the time or money to do my own. Well, things change with time and I’ve finally found the right project for me. Known as the “Golden Phantom” it is a 51 3800 Chevy Panel Truck. Parked in a barn 25 yrs ago, it first saw light of day again about 6 wks ago when I finally picked it up. I’ve put more detail in the gallery should you wish to see it. It is probably 99% original and complete, with the exception of the seats (which will definitely be going). I’m hoping to have it rolling soon and on the road. It will be a driver and ultimately my tailgaiting camper for travel. But aside from the tailgaiting/camping insert, I want it to be as near to original as possible.

So if I can be of assistance, I’ll do what I can, and look forward to helping.

Ned

Welcome Ned,

Sounds like you have an interesting project. I like the camping insert idea, sort of like what a lot of people are doing with the PT Cruisers, or sort of reminiscense of the customized conversion vans of yesterday.
Just curious, are you going to keep it an inline, or are you leaning towards V8?

John

Thanks folks

John.. planning keeping the 6, though I may store it and put a 235 with some modern ignition. I am hoping if enough of the orignal can be preserved, it may have some antique value.. But time will tell... But no.. not thinking V8.

Lori, as I recall, Peggy said you're doing a door art gallery... i'll grab a better shot of that and get it to you if you would like it.

The 'Golden Phantom' has a perfect marriage in meeting you Ned. I can't wait to hear how the project goes. With your background and her legacy only great things will happen.
Good luck and welcome to the "Stovebolt".

Mitch
