I can't add any insight to your truck, but I'm sure it is a limited production vehicle, and not many survivors, so I think its a keeper.

A quick Google search indicates it was in business from about 1915 to 1943. GM was a majority owner from about 1923 on and sold it's Yellow Division to Yellow Coach. They built taxicabs and motor coaches and then it was absorbed by the new GMC Truck and Coach in 43'. Some of the production numbers are surprising high.

My best guestimate or SWAG is that Yellow was the upfitter for the front drive axle conversion in 1940. Many are surprised to learn that Detroit has a long history of aftermarket or specialty upfitter involvement and in this instance actually owned one. There are likely others who have direct knowledge of the Yellow history but a lot can be gained by a simple search.

If your truck is in good condition or is worth repairing I'd say it is a rarity if in fact not valuable. So give us some photos new guy..you know how we love those pictures.

i would think just being a 4x4 of that vintage it would be worth it, it would have to been a somewhat rare truck

As I was told, 5 lug wheels probably indicate 1 1/2 ton. That cab was used on all the trucks from 1940-1947.1 except the coe models.

Im looking through my books at the serial numbers...

I believe the engine numbers indicate a Chevy engine rather than a GMC.

Prior to 1939 or 1940 all GMC trucks were produced by the Yellow Coach division of General Motors.

Alright, going by only the head number (3836848) identifies it as a 1956 235. The 'A' stands for the year produced, 1939-1940. The 'C' indicates Conventional Cab. I cant find what the 'K' stands for. The '353' series indicates it was a 350 series truck with a 157 3/4" wheelbase and a 1940 model that came with a 228 from the factory.

If I can come up with any more info Ill let you know.

Jeff
