For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 45 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 45 | I'm looking at a 1963 Chevy pickup in an auction. It's pretty beat up, but it has a 6 cyl engine that may be just the ticket to replace my dead 216 in our '49 4600.
Here's the question: How do I tell the difference between a 230 and a 235 in a truck that I can only look at and not take apart?
All help is appreciated.

A 235 will have 4. A 230 or 250 will have the distributor all the way to the front on the pass. side. 235 is midway back on the pass. side. And the side cover(pushrod cover) is 2 pieces on a 230/250. 235 is one piece. Seein as how the motor is in a 63, its most likely a 230/250 | | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 | Seein as how the motor is in a 63, its most likely a 230/250 Probably, but make sure first. I got given a 64' with a 235 in it. My 65 has a 250 (not avaliable until 66)...so take the year of the truck into account, but do the research above to find out for sure. | | |
