The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop truck went to the body mans shop , Suggestions??

Well i was able to get the truck out through the snow an ice to the body shop under its own power & it was a neat ride with NO doors,glass,bed,front clip an stuff , folks i passed on the way just stared !...LOL
So here is my ? ..my truck will be ALL white when done , should i leave the cowl vent air intake grill white (it will come from paint white) ?.. or paint it black to hide the bugs that will be caught in it ? or maybe Blue the interior color ??..just droppin some ideas.

Tim...I wouldn't keep it white, in a weird way I think it would cheapin it. In my humble opinion, I think black would look real good. It'll bring out the "bug gut yellow" nicely!

Ditto here. Sometimes, when everything is the same color, it looks like it was all shot together and it cheapens the look. Whatever the grill color, the CONTRAST is what will make it look crisp-as long as all lines are straight and clean.

Tim, I'm no where near that stage but it has crossed my mine. I'm thinking why not do the screen up in stainless? I am VERY interested in what you do and how it looks as I have given serious thought to painting my panel white!! Originally I had thought about the Mitsubishi "copper" color but have since been leaning toward white. White will help hide all my "sins". Let me know what you do and good luck. Your gonna have one nice looking ride.
What kind of rim you running? Chrome wheels or painted? What color is you do paint it. I'm real curious as to what your going to do with the grille? Front of bar white and back of bar...?

Well just my opinion but I favor the blues. I am particular fond of dark teal colors.

Hi well on my 41chevy sedan is painted yellow and the vent gril is painted black. I want it to be seen when it open. So when the panel gets painted they will be a contrast color.

Colour is a personal taste, pesonally I like darker colours like blue or dark green.

I agree dark color on the vent grill will lokk better then white.

Thanks for ALL the input I guess it will be dark blue , NOW here's another ? that is drivin me nutty ......What is everyones opinion of 2 tone , im thinkin white with dark blue fenders and runnin boards or just ALL white with some hand done blue pinstripes ????....OOOOH THE DILEMA !!!!

P.S. I.m doin my paint all in pcs. so I am not committed to the final paint scheme , so far doors are white and cab soon to be , the hood and front fenders go next.

Tim, darn, as I mentioned earlier I think we are on the same wave length. I'm leaning more to white than the "copper" color I mentioned but EITHER way I go I plan to run different color fenders and running boards. Original I thought about the copper color with a "silver or grey" type contrast. Now I'm thinking White with maybe a "silver or grey" contrast. I think its gonna depend a lot on the type wheel I finally settle on.

I saw one with the screen painted black and "factory air" written on it in white. I thought that it looked really cool!

Hi, I like the two-tones on the older type trucks of the thirties. The contrasting colors of red with black or black with green look appealing. I've seen a few done in the 50's that looked nice but were not so contrasting in colors. An example is dark blue with black fenders and boards or a dark gray and a lighter shade of gray but not so contrasting. Again I like the darker blues and deeper teal colors with perhaps a pinstrip of straw or orange (single or double 1/8 th inch) over the length of the vehicle if painted a solid color. Do a Google search on your year truck and then hit images to view trucks like yours and what someother folks did, something there may appeal and or give you some ideas. The stainless steel vent screen ACHIPMUNK mentioned sounded like a great idea. Checked out some of the members vehicles here, there are some good looing two-tone vehicles.Just a note on the two tones; they are alot easier to do paint repairs with out the worry of matching an attaching panel,should the need persent itself in the form of stone chips or "God forbid", an accident. Just reshoot the four fenders to match in color or change the color for a new look.

The more you think about it, the more you second guess yourself. In 1953, to my knowledge, all trucks were painted one color. That doesn't mean you have to do that now. I'm planning dark blue as a single color with possibly the running boards black. Both bumpers will be painted as well

Well here's an update on this thread,
Stopped in sat. morn. to see if the man had started body work yet , too my SUPRISE the cab body work is DONE !,he had just finished sanding the second primer coat and was starting taping it off for final color, said he will shoot monday , sand & buff tues. I can bring her home wed !!!!....OMG.
and he wants the hood and front fenders when I pick up the truck !...man she looks GREAT ...will get some pics soon as I get her back to the shop,he told me we would have her ready for my 18yr olds Senior prom in April come heck or high water .
I am pretty thrilled right now I'll tell ya .
Well to get to the point I have a color chip book here to look at since I need to make a decission by the end of the week , Im starting to really like a light bluish/grey for the fenders against the bright white main color ,the wife even likes the idea of 2 tone to be different , my truck is far from stock so being different is what I am after.

That is great news and ditto on the pictures.
I dropped by the body shop to harass my body man and shame him into getting started on mine and found the cab inside an work started after 5 months. I'll check back on Wednesday to see if any progress has been made.
Re. color, I plan on a green cab, hood and bed ( close to the original green) with the fenders and running boards a darker green (some black added to the mix) that blends with the lighter green.

It seems if you don't constantly visit someone doing the work it never gets done...This lead me to doing it myself.

I once gave an engine that needed babbit poured bearings done to a machine shop. The guy had the engine for years. When I finally got so disgusted and when to pick up the engine he told me I owed him 300.00...For what, waiting?...I threw in a SBC and ended up rodding that one.

How about black fenders? Saw one painted like this at a Good Guys rod show and it really stood out, especially with a black interior and black bed wood. very simple and neat looking.

Just my opinion though.

That is looking good. Bet you did get some looks driving that, in the winter no less.
That sure is white. May end up looking like an ice cream truck. But maybe that is the look you are going for.

She looks great Radial. Love your dash. I like wood in these trucks. Seems like a perfect fit.

Well me an my Bro spent the early mornin installin the rear glass , man that can be a challenge ~!
The factory side windows went in NP , the aftermarket center slider was TIGHT !...we worked it for a long time to get the bead lock in but it all came together.
Also assembled the windshield ..NEW RUBBER & S.S. trim so we are just gonna let that new rubber rest an relax overnight and attemp to install tomorrow .
Also added a pic of my 1967 Triumph Trophy (Dads bike)...I restored after 15 yrs of setting in his basement after he could no longer ride for anyone that likes Old Motorcykles..
