Thanks! I wish that was an extra clip in the pic, but it is the only one i've got. The fender that I am holding up is an extra that I have.

The hump on the roof is an air vent. It is supposed to draw fresh air into the interior while you are driving. However, it moves almost no air at all. It is coming off soon. Then I'll have to patch a 6" round hole.

Just a warning about patching your roof-be VERY VERY careful about applying heat to a large expanse of metal like that! I learned the hard way on my 64 doing exactly the same thing you're going to do. The roof just took on a life of its own! Good luck! Jeff in IL

dropped axle looks cool,how much drop? are you planning a power steering conversion. what rear are you using. cool burb dude!

Thanks for the kind words! My axle came from Sids, it is a 3 inch drop. I measured carefully and anything over 3 would put too much below the scrub line. The stock axle is already dropped 4 inches from horizontal so adding 3 inches means a 7 inch drop, so, a 15 inch wheel is 1/2 below the line, a 16 is 1 inch.
I parted out a 68 chevy van for the rear end which is a 12 bolt with a 3.72 (?) ratio. It was a 6 lug which I had drilled for the 5 on 4 3/4 pattern to match the 5 lug disc brake kit on front. It measures 61 inches amd is a greast fit.
I have the parts in hand for power steering. I bought the conversion kit from the former Chevy Duty. I am keeping the stock steering shaft cut off with a bearing inserted at the bottom. A universal and shaft to connect to ps box on front of frame.

Hey John, The engine is a 250 Chevy with an Offenhauser 4 barrel manifold, mild cam, and split exhaust manifold. I used a tubular motor mount from the former Chevy Duty. Thanks for the compliment!

I really like your Burb too! I have a 52 GMC myself. I talked with Sid at one of the HAMB events last year. Realy nice guy I think. Does great work. My plan is to do a dropped axle this year too. Nice to know the 3" is the mark to meet. That is what I will do too. I just need to get the axle prepped and sent off to him. Here is a link to my Burb as it is so far. These are great old trucks!!

It can be a disaster if you get the roof too hot, but you'll be fine if you...
1. ...use a heat dam, an asbestos (or it used to be anyway) and water paste that you form next to the weld and it soaks up heat before it spreads too far.
2, ...do not run a bead. Tack in 4 corners and then in between each tack 180 degrees apart. Go slow and every once in a while spray some water from a spray bottle onto the area to keep it cool. Yea, it's tedious but just about guarantees no warping.

Then comes the hard part... finishing a roof :crazy:

looking good once again sid what kind of trans are you running, i put a 5 speed, i have a 4 inch dropped axle i am going to install with some 16 inch 5 lug artillery wheels, i installed a lincoln disc brake rear end 62 inches wide, a booster master that is frame mounted. and a 248 gmc 6

Weeds, I'm looking at your Sub pictures and thinking yours looks shorter than mine. Were there two lengths? Doesn't seem to make sense....

Wow! that is one fine looking GMC. Answer a question for me if you can. I checked with the guys who were Chevy Duty and they don't have a 250 crossmember now. Is the one you got for the 250 or did you modify the V-8 one. Nice job and thanks for your time!

Roadmarks use a 54-55.1 bellhousing crossmember, a 55 chevy truck v8 bellhousing and side mount the motor you can buy them from buffillo in Washington state if you cant make them

Thanks for the compliment, I used a V 8 crossmwmber modified to fit the 250. I cut it in the center andwelded a sleeve to make it fit. What John said is a better way to go.

Smitty & John...many thanks. I hope that one day my '56 TF panel will look that good. Sachse Rod shop in Texas has a universal crossmember for biscuit mounts with 19" centers and 250 engine mounts for the same spacing. Crossmember, engine mounts, and biscuits appear to be about $110 plus shipping. That is probably how I'll do my truck. I don't mind welding, but I'd like to keep things as simple as possible. Thanks again for the replies.
