It lurched forward and I caught it immediately; no fatalities this time. But ever since I've been having a problem with the starter. About 80% of the time I go to start it, everything's in fine working order. But the other part of the time the starter will just whir around like the solenoid isn't engaging the starter gear to the flywheel. Also, regardless of the starting condition, when I let out the clutch to let the rig idle in neutral I feel a slight pull forward as though it were in gear. It is the gear & collar assembly on the end of the starter. They are not hard to replace yourself, & a lot cheaper then getting a reman starter. On the clutch thing you may have too thick of grease in the trans. acting like a fluid coupling.

It has small springs and rollers in it and if they become damaged it will let the drive slip. Your original drive was a 3 roller drive. I use the heavier version with 5 rollers in it. Your going to have to take the starter apart to replace the drive, now might be a good time to replace bushings, brushes etc., preventive maintenance if you will. If your interested in a very complete rebuild kit and a heavier drive shoot me an email. My kits contain lots of parts, not just your typical 3 or 4 parts like in most kits.
