#29707 10/25/2004 3:15 AM | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 19 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 19 | I had a 68 Chevy do the same thing, didn't take long to figure out there was a lot of trash in the fuel tank, and would stop up the fuel filter, could go 60 easily for a while then as the filter stopped up, top speed would fall off.
Could be the pump just not keeping up with the demand at 50 - 60, but just enough to allow a slower speed.
Check the sock in the tank too.
You are probably right, sounds like it is starving for fuel. | | |

If it does, leave it shut off, pull over (only if it's safe to do this) and see if the carb has any fuel. If the accelerator pump pumps little or nothing, I would say you have a supply problem. Usually a pump and/or filter problem.

When checking fuel supply, don't forgt to occasionally check the ceramic filter inside the carb itself - right where the fuel line screws in.
