For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 582 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 582 | Got an 848 head that I want to get completely redone. New valves, seats, guides, springs, etc. Head cleaned and fluxed and all the normal stuff. Would appreciate an approximate cost of doing this from your experience if I furnish all of the parts to the machine shop. In addition, if anyone in the Maryland, DC or Virginia area knows of a good, reputable shop, I'd appreciate that too. Don't want to make a costly mistake or get taken. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 438 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 438 | 49-
Had a pair of heads reworked for my 305 SBC-V8. Cost around $275 at one of the best regional shops with higher tech machining tools.
Sorry, you're in the "other" Washington, so I can't recommend anything local! | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 | Most (a lot) machine shops also sell the parts and want to use thier own stuff. So if you take the parts to them they will likely charge you more than if they supply them. What is so special about your own parts? This is like taking your own oil to the garage guy and asking him to change it. | | |

If you supply the parts and anything goes wrong with the head they may be quick to blame YOUR parts.. Let them do the whole job. If there are any problems, they are fully accountable..
