I was just curious...

I'm looking at buying a '53 1/2 ton chevy panel and it has its rear fenders, but they are pretty beat up and rusty. I also have the rear fenders from a half ton pickup that are in pretty good shape.

Has any ever tried to put pickup fenders on a panel? With any success?

I know that the pickup fenders mount horizontally and the panel fenders bolt vertically in relation to the fender flange. I would have to do some rust repair around the fender flanges on the body anyway and the metal work to bolt the pickup fenders on is something I think I can do.

Would the appearance change dramatically? Any suggestions?

Rocket , If the original panel fenders are in any way saveable I think it would be less work to go with the original fenders rather than try to make the pickup fenders fit. I don't know for sure but the pickup fenders may be a little different shape. I just went thru rust repair on the rear fenders and fender wells on my 49 sub. I had looked at pickup fenders and decided to stay with the original sub fenders. Glad I did. Hopefully someone who has tried this will jump in and give you an answer. Weeds

i have heard that the truck fenders do fit but they are a few inches wider. so i guess there are a few guys that run them so they can run wider tires in the back.

The panel van fender, from the wheel opening up the fender is very flat as the pick-up fender is very curved. I'm not talking about the part of the panel fender that bolts to the body I'm talking about the face of the fender. The overall shape isn't right and if it was they would be building steel panel van fenders buy just triming the steel pick-up fenders to shape

If you look in the eBay links forum there's a set of fiberglass ones for sale.

I haven't looked up the ones on e-bay but for as info I can get fiberglass fenders for my 52 a lot cheaper than body work...unless your one of the lucky ones who can do it yourself. For me I'm going to get fiberglass from R&R Fiberglass out of Tenn. They have good stuff.
