Ok I have read all the posts and now I am looking for a recomendation on purchasing new rubber for my front and rear window on my 50 3600. It appears that some people recommend Steele Products as the best available any thoughts?

I used Steele Products and they seem to have a pretty good product.

I just installed Steele rubbers on all my windows. They're a nice product. Not cheap, but a lot better than the ones I tried to use from the normal vendors, without success.

If you want it to last more than one year better get the Steele Rubber. It cost more but worth it.

I've been fighting windshield leaks in my 54 truck and didn't use Premium Steele Rubber. Sure wish I had......

Steele is recommended but even so leaks are possible because replacement glass is thinner than original. I would assume that the groove in the rubber is based on original glass thickness.

I put Steele rubber in my 46 p/u 20 years ago. So far it is still soft and doesn't leak. You decide which company has the best to use.

I replaced all of the rubber in and on my 37 in the late 80's with Steele Ruber Products when Mr. Steele still owned the company. I still have that same rubber on my truck. I replaced every piece they made on my truck and there was one piece they didn't make. The staff helped me figure out what it looked like and made it for me. It has been in their catalog since then. As far as I know, nothing has changed even though Mr. Steele is gone. I think they are the best! Period.

As everyone has pretty much said,,its right the first time and no more worries.
The sweetness of saving a few bucks turns really sour when youre replacing the stuff a couple years down the road.

I just looked up Steele. Windshield rubber for my '49 was $63, not all that unreasonable for a good product. My main problem is the rubber at the bottom of my windshield is puckered and lets water in. Think I'll give Steele a try. Everybody sure seems to be happy with them.

Thanks for the concensus I will go with Steele. Just an idea to pass on since I am getting my glass cut locally I wanted templates. My rear window and front windows were pretty broke up (vandals). So I covered them with duct tape on the outside and trimmed around the rubber with a razor knife, this held them together and I removed them as one piece suitable to use as templates. I let the duct tape set for about 2-3 days before I did this. Once out I removed the old rubber seals and they are perfect templates for tracing with the duct tape holding everything together.

HAHA I did that with clear packing tape so I could drive it till I was ready to remove it.

This is a good topic for the archives. I'll be checking it out in a few months. ...can hardly wait...
